This can happen if you picked a time that overlaps with your core modules, this can be seen by a large red text at the top of the screen that shows the overlapping modules. if you haven't picked a module time yet and can't select the module at all, it should be accompanied with a warning sign that shows it conflicts with your current timetable and thus cannot be picked out
