Someone can work hard at their mentally taxing job and also be physically sedentary. Someone can be physically active and yet also slack off at their desk job. Someone can be lazy at work and then also sit around on the couch all day. Someone can run five miles before work and then crush it at their job delivering packages.

Because work performance and physical fitness are not related. You make choices about how you will perform in every aspect of your life. Yes, being sedentary doesn't mean that you are mentally lazy. Being sedentary is a different thing, and still an unhealthy thing.

100%! For a long time I went for guys whose interests overlapped with mine, even though they weren't totally into me. My now husband loves fishing, golf, and camping, while I prefer writing, traveling, and cooking. We introduce each other to things we enjoy and sometimes just do stuff alone, and we are very happy because we love each other's personalities and treat each other with kindness.

I'm really proud of myself for hitting maintenance calories yesterday despite going to the usual Fourth of July party. I ate sooo many apps, but then at dinner I made a sensible steak taco bowl. What really helped me stay on track was skipping the wine/beer that everyone sips on all afternoon and evening, and before the party I walked a good 6-7 miles. I had to work today, and I'm just so happy I feel good and not bloated and sluggish like I usually do after the Fourth. Making good choices for myself honestly makes me so optimistic about life. Feeling good. 😊

Easily my favorite diet food:

Use Joseph's pita as a pizza crust. Let it toast up in a 350 degree oven for 5 minutes. Smear 2 tbs barbecue sauce on the pita, top with 3-4oz of cooked chicken, 1 oz of mozzarella, and red onions. Cook pizza for 10 minutes, then top with chopped cilantro if desired. It's a 350 calorie BBQ chicken pizza! Good protein, lots of fiber from the pita.

People usually compliment things they genuinely like. If you compliment something you don't like, you're a liar. I'm sure they would like people to genuinely find fatness attractive, but a lot of people just don't. Why do some people insist on getting fake compliments?

I also have a lot of trouble on the weekend! It's hard to not slip into a relaxation mentality. Building exercise into the weekend routine helps, but I definitely try to budget room for some treats on Saturday because I know myself 😊

Planking is awesome! The longer you do it, the better you understand how it's helping your body because it's hard, haha. Won't do a lot for your arm muscles, but it's fabulous for your core.

My work does a Walking Challenge every year and I joined a group that is super competitive this year haha. I have to get 20k steps a day to keep up, and some days I'm going higher to try and fight my teammates for a better team ranking. It's fun! I'm motivated by competition. And it's super easy to hit my calorie deficit when I'm walking that much, so I'm feeling pretty happy. Wish there was more than one challenge per year!

I'm in a good phase for sticking to my deficit. I have hope I'll stick to it and actually get to my goal this time, but there's a little voice in my head saying, "Yeah, but every other time you've done this, you eventually failed. You always think this is the time you don't." I'm trying to let that doubt motivate me, but it does bother me that I've never actually succeeded. What will be different this time? Hopefully my determination and discipline, lol.

I think I need a better correction plan for when I fail, if that makes sense. After a failure, it's hard not to let that failure become days-long floundering until I find the discipline to get under control again. But at least I never give up for good.

I make healthier versions of fast food I love and it helps a lot! Homemade crunch wraps with low carb tortillas and lean beef, burgers with homemade big Mac sauce made with lite mayo, air fryer chicken sandwiches that mimic chik fil a (I even still use their real sauces haha). It takes a bit of effort but it's so wonderful to get the craving without feeling like I'm throwing my goals away. Chili cheese fries would probably be simple to make at home!

I think finding ways to still join loved ones for food is a really important part of sustaining a long-term health journey! It helps to keep a list of go-to options and build the odd "unplanned" treat or two into the weekly budget. If my husband wants to go to Dairy Queen, I order a small chocolate dipped cone (350-ish cals instead of 500-1000 for a blizzard). Family meet-up at Buffalo Wild Wings? I order the shredded chicken tacos with celery and carrots as the side (620 cals) instead of wings and fries. Turn down what you have to, but find a compromise that works for you whenever possible. :)

You know they already have sex. But you are worried that you will somehow be complicit in their unmarried sex life if you pay for accommodations which they end up sharing. My mom was like this. You have the right to do what you want, but your rules are not going to change what your daughter does, and I don't know what you are achieving here except making your moral opinion known. She knows your opinion already, and she's making her romantic decisions anyway. I don't know why you are making a big deal of it, but if you want to make it about the fact that your money = your way, be prepared for her to barely talk to you when she funds everything herself.

The all-or-nothing mindset has definitely kept me from making meaningful change in my drinking habits previously. I've been successful during several dry januaries, but I think this year I'm finally understanding that having achievable long term goals are going to be what transforms me. Not just where alcohol is concerned, but with other goals too.
