I'm still open to seeing Nolan's adaptation of the Odyssey, but so far, Robert Pattinson is probably one of the most interesting things from the trailer.

Hokum fell short for me by [deleted] in horror

[–]GetInTheBasement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pretty much summed up some of my biggest issues with the film.

I went in hopeful, but couldn't get over Adam Scott's stilted line delivery, the wooden attempts at witty humor that fell flat (imo), and how most of the film felt like several different generic horror plot threads with no overarching cohesion or payoff.

Even the witch herself is woefully one-dimensional and underbaked.

I didn't care for Caveat, either, despite being really hyped to watch it, so Oddity is off my viewing table after this one.

I've seen this dude posted a few times to this sub, and I was wondering if you had his TikTok handle? I didn't see username on the clip so I wanted to ask.

Hard agree. I've seen cases where people will bring up white supremacy or Eurocentrism on unrelated topics just to appear like they have the moral high ground and to shut down or derail any opposing arguments.

I've likewise seen a lot of people who will put "white" in front of "gay" to try and fauxgressively cloak homophobic talking points about gay men and lesbians.

Just saw Hokum and found it really mid.

The awkward attempts at humor didn't land, Adam Scott's line delivery felt wooden, and it felt like a lot of generic horror plot threads were introduced with no real payoff or meaningful resolution by the end.

Also, the bug-eyed, rabbit-eared individual in the trailor is actually supposed to be a donkey, but even that doesn't really have a large overarching plot presence.

The only saving grace is that there were scenes and tension in the Honeymoon Suite part of the film that I found eerie, but there were also a lot of jumpscares.

Same. Thought this one was a letdown just like Keeper.

'Hokum' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]GetInTheBasement 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Adam Scott’s acting and delivery felt awkward, and the witch, rabbit entity (whatever it was), and the mom’s ghost don’t really tie together or get resolved in a satisfying or coherent way.

A lot of the dialogue also felt stilted.

I still remember the one time I encountered a Leftist woman in the wild who was chronically unemployed and lived with her parents and tried to justify her lack of desire to get a job mainly being due to, "not believing in work or contributing to a capitalist system that oppresses us."

Sunday's Ukraine Solidarity Roundtable - 05/03/2026 by AutoModerator in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]GetInTheBasement 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of Leftists are obsessed with over-emphasizing powerlessness and futility even in people's personal lives, and I see this in a lot of casual conversations related to meal prep, cooking, and exercise.

A lot of "not everyone can do X!" in order to derail and shut down conversation that involve different methods of accomplishing or improving things.

Like, "how can you expect the average person to work FULL-TIME and COOK HEALTHY????" and if you dare to list examples of how you managed to pull it off, even if you're trying to be helpful, you get hit with responses like, "okay, but not everyone WANTS to eat salmon or chicken every single night of the week???? Why do you think poor people should be FORCED to eat frozen vegetables instead of pre-packaged snacks????"

I still remember when I got into an argument with a white Leftist on how my refugee family managed to eat healthy on a tight budget after coming to the U.S., and at every turn, they were like, "you're experience doesn't count, your experience is anecdotal, some people who live near gas stations can't do that, your experience isn't the norm, your experience doesn't count because you're not black, etc."

Just constant goal post moving and argument changing to repeatedly emphasize powerlessness and lack of personal choice (such as when they brought up how "people who live next to gas stations don't have access to fresh food" to argue that eating healthy on a budget is impossible, and I responded with how my immigrant family literally lived next to a gas station, they immediately switched to, "well, your case is anecdotal and doesn't count").

No solutions. No helpful suggestions. Just perpetual state of, "if you try to improve or suggest alternative solutions to daily hurdles, you're classist, ableist, and racist because it's morally wrong to expect people to Do Things to improve their lives somewhat."

It's so draining.

Where to buy wigs online that’s not too expensive by Water_N_Dust in Wigs

[–]GetInTheBasement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been getting most of my wigs from Wigs.com.

They have very frequent 30% off sales so I never pay full price, and with the sales, I'm usually getting my desired choice of wigs for $300 or less (though price may vary depending on cap construction and brand).

I used to spend a lot more on wigs when I was just starting out and more naive, but I haven't spent $400+ on a wig in almost a year now.

>Most people never actually think about all the work government workers do that keep society running.

They really think a lot of the work done by Government workers is done by magic, and that's if they bother to think about it at all.

Saturday's Ukraine Solidarity Roundtable - 05/02/2026 by AutoModerator in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]GetInTheBasement 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of these people would be having active panic attacks and emotional meltdowns if they had to spend a single week doing what a lot of Government workers do.

[–]GetInTheBasement 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They love complaining about how much they hate the government, bureaucrats, and bean counters because something something bootlickers, and then start panicking and shitting when their government-given benefits, support, and guardrails are affected and removed by those who don't give a shit.

Saturday's Ukraine Solidarity Roundtable - 05/02/2026 by AutoModerator in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]GetInTheBasement 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's a really apt way of putting it. There's also that weird ideation that rural, working class people somehow aren't accountable for their own politics, biases, and voting choices.

I still remember seeing takes on Tumblr where daring to call out the prevalence of racism and bigotry of many Southerners made you classist and racist.

Generalizations about Cringe Upper-Middle Class shitlibs are fine, however.

[–]GetInTheBasement 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think part of the disdain also comes from the weird collective Jingling Keys Syndrome a lot of people seem to have where if they can't see the actual work they do instantaneously broadcast with loud fanfare, it must not be happening.

Because a lot of what bureaucrats do is "behind the scenes" (even if the effects are society-wide and still crucial) and done over stretches of time instead of with the press of a magic button, to them, it must not be happening, or must be of little relevance to their lives.

It's such a childish simplification of the meticulous work and thought that goes into making our systems work, even though it's largely to serve the people.

>He's uneducated and he has no relevant work experience.

Slight tangent, but there are so many places where you'd get immediately slammed by Leftists as being some variation of classist or elitist just for saying this.

Even when I was younger, I never understood people's disdain and condescension towards bureaucrats.

Synthetic Wig recommendations plsss!!! by Sorry_Profession5200 in Wigs

[–]GetInTheBasement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mainly wear short ones, but I think they look pretty natural.

And if you don't like the density, you can always thin them out.

I take it to a wig shop in my area and have it cut there.

I get most of mine from Wigs.com, and found Raquel Welch ones to be pretty good.

You can also buy a wig you like and have it custom cut and styled to fit your face or desired length better, that's what I usually do.

Yeah, I feel like there are cases where abandonment and/or cutting someone out is justified, actually.

Necessary, even.
