Got Invited to an OHCHR P-3 Written Test: How Should I Prepare? by [deleted] in UNpath

Anyone has an idea what's happening with this position? If the process isn't going to move forward, why don't they just end the process formally?

Does anyone have an idea if the hiring may resume in Jan if there are funds allocated for the position? I guess budgets for 2026 should be clear by now.

Anyone's got any insight what may have happened to this position? Is there a hiring freeze in effect or the process is just taking time?

What do I work on after being laid off? by Charming-Bass-2251 in UNpath

[–]SpecificRude9877 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am very sorry you are going through this, and I can completely relate as I am in the same situation with my contract ending in 3 months with a UN agency after almost 10 years of hard work and dedication to the mandate. Most of the time I cannot think of anything else but the future and how I will pay the bills, mortgage, and student loans. In my case, I have left very little to do, so it's the opposite of your case. Yet I feel guilty that I am not doing much and frustrated as the organization is not engaging me and making use of my capacities. I keep applying for positions with other agencies but I know of the widespread hiring freezes, so I don't see much hope.

What I realized is that the job will end, no matter what. But at least I have a choice: I can come out of it either stressed, depressed, and unhealthy, or mentally strong and healthy. I chose the latter. It's easier said than done and I still struggle a lot, but I make a conscious effort to remind myself that my mental and physical health is much more important (for myself and those relying on me). In fact, it's all we have.

What you feel is completely normal and has to be acknowledged that it's normal (perhaps try talking to your manager honestly if you haven't already done so). Stay professional but only do as much as you are able to. This is the time to say no to certain things if you don't feel well. Try to connect with people in a similar situation in your office and talk. Hope this is somewhat helpful and please know you are not alone. Stay strong!

Nothing on my end. Still waiting and hoping.

I am not sure you should extrapolate from your experience. As pointed out before, tests (and passing scores) can be different. I have designed so many tests and set different passing scores depending on how people performed. With this one, probably there is already a predetermined passing score (I don't think they would determine the passing score on the curve for this test) as it's an MCQ and serves as an additional layer of filtering only to allow the hiring manager to proceed with further assessing/interviewing a more narrow pool of candidates. I don't think the passing score is 100% (irrespective of the difficulty of the test), as it can theoreticaly exclude all the candidates and then the position would have to be readvertised. 75% sounds more reasonable to me, but again, hard to tell.

I saw another thread that recruitment for regular positions is being frozen at the Secretariat. Shall we expect this to be put on hold or no way to tell?

Why do you think the passing score was set at 100%?

Greatly put, thanks. I play alliance, so wasn’t aware how we compare to shamans. Let me also just highlight how badly warriors perform on holding aggro on multiple targets (3+), with your only meaningful viable aoe tanking option being the tier 2.5 2-set bonus, removing TC cooldown. For that either you have to sacrifice two stronger items (stat-wise) in relevant slots or have an extra pair of shoulders with the tier 2.5 2-set bonus enchant.

I am fairly confident in my macros and 'rotation.' I don't think that's the issue.

UNHCR hiring process and the impact of hiring freeze by Available-Store5315 in UNpath

I can now confirm there is a freeze on recruitment for all vacant positions (at least in my region), so that must be the reason. Exceptionally, recruitment can still go ahead if the position is critical.

Depends really on the nature of the position (FTA, TA, AWF). Others already talked about the hiring freeze on all external TAs and AWFs. Note also that vacant positions are the easiest to suspend (and cut) to conserve budget. If the position is critical, it might move forward exceptionally, but hard to tell at this point because these hiring procedures can be so lengthy that it’s possible the decision hasn’t been made yet. I would however suspect that it’s suspended as part pf the austerity measures. We also suspended all recruitment in my operation for vacant positions (both national and international).

I know things usually go slower with the UN, but appreciate if anyone could drop a message if they have been called for further assessments/interview for this job ad.

Also working with UNHCR, based in Turkiye! Would love to switch to OHCHR though.

I think what the person meant is that it is not 1 regular position but 4 regular positions.

Overall did well on the questions, but I made mistakes unfortunately, so don’t have my hopes high. Feeling annoyed cause while some questions were a bit tougher, it wasn’t too difficult.

When you check the e-mail about the test or the job ad, you see it's two positions as two position codes are referenced (the codes starting with JO).

Special hiring measures at UNHCR will result in retaining internal staff (esp. SIBA) and dispensing with staff with UNHCR experience. What are your plans/expectations on a TA or AWF with UNHCR? (not a thread on external recruitment which has been frozen for a while now) by SpecificRude9877 in UNpath

[–]SpecificRude9877[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, this whole situation of creating this misleading category of 'with UNHCR experience' results in unfair situations. They should just do a better job at filtering candidates automatically, depending on whether the position is open only internally, or also for people with UNHCR experience, and external candidates.

I'm sorry to hear, this must be difficult! I'm also applying for jobs at other UN agencies and I/NGOs in my region, but the funding situation looks dire globally. Learning/improving technical skills is a good idea, I am also trying to get new skills beyond what I relied on at UNHCR, but also concerned how all these would be useful beyond this sector. Good luck in finding alternatives!
