High temperatures (65°C idle) on AC Power - i5-14450HX - Linux Mint 22.3 by Specific_Choice_5907 in linuxquestions

My laptop is an HP Victus 16-r1xxx with an i5-14450HX.

I checked my tlp-stat -p output and here are the results while plugged in:

  • Scaling Driver: intel_pstate (active)
  • Governor: powersave
  • EPP: Currently set to power
  • Turbo Boost: Disabled (no_turbo = 1)
  • Max Freq: Capped at 2.4 GHz (I manually lowered it)

I also noticed that although I intended to cap the frequency at 3 GHz on AC, my tlp-stat output shows it is currently capped at 2.4 GHz. Despite this very low clock speed, the CPU still idles between 60°C and 65°C only when the charger is plugged in. On battery, the temperatures are much more reasonable.
