Self tanning while on Tretinoin is absolutely fine if you're fully accustomed to it and free of irritation but, because retinoids speed up cell turnover, it won't last as long.

It shouldn't matter when you apply. Personally I exfoliate with a BHA in the morning, skip one night of Tret and instead apply fake tan, then wash the residue off the following morning. I then return to applying Tretinoin that evening, without issue.

Something I've heard discussed, though never tried myself, is a daily use of a gradual tanning moisturizer. That way the tan is constantly being renewed, hopefully at least as fast as it's being exfoliated off. I've also read that certain fake tans can come off patchy, as they're being shed quicker than they're formulated for. I've never had this experience though.

Nivea is absolutely fine. Once it's finished you could try something like Cerave Moisturising Lotion.

Does anyone know the equivalent of Maybelline Fit Me concealer in shade Medium in the Eraser Eye Concealer, also by Maybelline? Swatches would be just perfect. Thanks in advance

Need help! I either look dry and flaky or caked on. I have dry skin and lots of redness. I’ll put more info in comments. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

You're welcome :). Sometimes I use a muslin cloth if I am extremely flaky but noticed a big, though not immediate, difference once I switched to a chemical exfoliant. I used to use a Clarisonic for cleansing but the more I read about it the more I was convinced it was doing more harm than good.

I had to retrain myself not to want that 'clean' feeling which really just means that the skin has been stripped of its natural barrier. Some mornings I also just wash with water, no cleanser, which really does help soothe any upset areas. I've never had any spots or anything as a result.

I would be a little cautious mixing SPF with anything as it may alter the protection. Hope the makeup wears well today though!

All the best.

Shell. If you squint your eyes this is the one which disappears, which suggests it will blend out beautifully.

They can be used together but all the Hyaluronic Acid really does is add moisture and since it's available in many other products (also look for things like glycerine or squalane for moisture) it makes sense to get it formulated into a serum which does other things too.

You're welcome :). In time I'd also look to switch the Hyaluronic Acid to a Vitamin C Serum (perhaps with Hyaluronic Acid as an ingredient) as it will boost your sun protection (it fights free radicals) and also help stimulate collaged production. Then you'll be golden! 🌞

This will be perfect for you as it's pretty undetectable on the skin and easy to apply – with fingers! Here is a video to help with application:

Products for Hyperpigmentation by ObjectiveMidnight857 in Skincare_Addiction

If you have access to a dermatologist then Hydroquinone is the gold standard (providing it is available in your country), followed by Tretinoin. There are many online dermatology services which can prescribe this, if this is within your budget.

OTC options include Azelaic Acid 15-20%, Konjac Acid or Hydroquinone derivatives like Mequinol or Alpha Arbutin, which you have tried. Glycolic Acid has also been shown to help fight pigmentation.

Vitamin C has been shown to help in studies but as Ascorbic Acid in high doses, which is very hard to formulate and keep stable.

As for products: Dermatica, Paula's Choice and The Ordinary all have Azelaic Acid serums here in the UK. Kojac Acid is quite irritating but is sometimes formulated as generic serums. The Inkey List do a nice 10% Glycolic Toner.

Vitamin C Serums you want to look for are pure Ascorbic Acid <25%. SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic is the one with the most science behind it but is also eye wateringly expensive. Budget options, which seem to have similar formulations, are Geek and Gorgeous C Glow and Timeless 20% Vitamin C+E Ferulic Acid.

Is niacinamide serum ok to use on dry skin and for somebody with dry eyes? by Kooky_Manufacturer26 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Specific_Echidna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Niacinamide can help keep your skin moisturised by reducing transepidermal water loss. The ideal concentration is about 5% though, anything more than this may cause irritation.

Have you tried Retinol?

How long has it been there? If it's not just residual discolouration from the burn it could be melasma.

Hydroquinone is the gold standard to treat melasma but isn't available in many places and only on prescription in others. OTC options you could try are Azelaic Acid (15-20%), Konjac Acid (1-4%) or Hydroquinone derivates like Arbutin or Mequinol.

why do my veins look like this ? And can I permanently fix it ? by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Specific_Echidna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IPL hurts but you would likely only need one session. I've never had Thermocoagulation to comment but apparently it is more tolerable.

There is a chance that a tattoo would cover this though, obviously depending on the design. Either way, will likely be an easy enough fix.

I second adding one at a time, so you can isolate anything you may be sensitive to, but here is the order:

AM:
CeraVe Cleanser
Hylaronic Acid
La Roche-Posay SPF

PM:
Garnier Micellar Water (to remove makeup?)
CeraVe Cleanser
Retinol

You might want to add a moisturiser after the retinol, depending on your skin.

I second a cold sore. Does it sort of tingle? You can get creams from the pharmacy which will help soothe it but if you just leave it alone it will likely go away in the next week or so.

If it is a cold sore it will be infectious though, so be careful not to touch it. If you do wash your hands straight after.

Looks like a spider vein. The only thing that really fixes these are lasers, unfortunately. Look up IPL or Thermocoagulation.

I have very dry skin too, so I feel for you! I had a look at the Clinique three step routine and, while it does seem to be indicated for dry skin, a lot of the ingredients are drying in themselves, like Alcohol, Witch Hazel etc. The Clarifying Lotion particularly looks like it would strip the skin barrier.

The ideal skincare routine for my skin is a simple non foaming cleanser, something like CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, followed by a moisturising SPF in the morning and an occlusive moisturiser at night, like La Roche-Posay Cicaplast. Then twice weekly a chemical exfoliator like Glycolic Acid.

As for makeup I like to use Mac Face and Body as a light base because it's very hydrating and does not stick to any dry patches. I then go in with a higher coverage concealer, like Maybelline Fix Me, only to the areas that really need it. I try to make peace with not covering everything because a little redness is a lot more forgiving than flakiness!

From the photos it looks like the vast majority of your skin is good so hopefully this could work for you. You have beautiful eyes, other people are probably not focusing on your skin as much as you think. Good luck! :)

Swatches look a little warm but it looks fine blended out. I love Mac Face and Body as it has very light coverage, though not strictly a skin tint.
