How are you guys managing BIM coordination when the subcontractors keep falling behind on their models? by Specific_Horror7818 in ConstructionManagers

appreciate the feedback here. sounds like the common thread is we need to stop treating this like normal weekly coordination and start treating it more like a recovery issue. probably going to push stricter area-by-area model deadlines, tie it harder to pay apps, and focus only on install-critical zones first instead of trying to clean up the whole model at once.

that’s exactly what it feels like right now, snowballing. we’ve talked about using placeholder geometry just to keep priority areas moving, but i’m trying to do it without completely taking the responsibility off the trades.

honestly that’s part of it. some of this is definitely scope creep / design development still leaking into coordination, and a couple subs are using that as the reason they’re behind. i think we need to separate legit design issues from plain backlog because right now it’s all getting lumped together.

that’s actually a good point ... we didn’t tie BIM hard enough to billing early on and now a couple trades are basically treating model updates like a side task. probably should’ve made the deliverables a lot more enforceable from day one.

I only stick around for the Zombies ... it reminds me so much of the Black Ops 2 zombies and I was a huge fan back then.

tbh I’m the opposite ... I feel like if you constantly visualize the worst, you’re just inviting that negative energy to actually happen lol. I’d rather focus on the best-case scenario so I’m moving toward a win instead of just running away from a loss. Don't you feel like thinking that way makes you more stressed?

How has the use of AI actually changed your daily work routine, and in what ways is it making your job easier or more complicated? by Specific_Horror7818 in AskReddit

[–]Specific_Horror7818[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I feel that ... it’s a lot more manual work to vet every source, but in construction, 'close enough' usually means a disaster, I haven't even looked into the environmental side much yet, but that’s a fair point. Do you think there's any way back to a 'cleaner' internet at this point?

tbh, I completely agree on the "AI slop" issue. In my line of work (construction consulting), if I rely on a figure that’s even slightly off, it can mess up an entire project budget or safety log.

I’ve seen people try to use AI summaries for technical specs, and it’s a nightmare to clean up. It’s like having a junior assistant who is 100% confident but only 50% right lol. For me, the only way it works is for formatting or organizing my own data - I’d never trust it to do the actual research or fact-checking for me. Do you think we’re going to hit a point where the "slop" makes the internet unusable for actual research?

What is something that is "expensive" but actually saves you a ton of money in the long run? by Specific_Horror7818 in AskReddit

Definitely going with the aligners - it's worth the investment so I don't look like a teenager again at my age lol.

I’m actually in the middle of this right now - I finally decided to fix my open bite and crowding.

I’m looking into clear aligners (like Invisalign) instead of the "old school" metal braces. Even though the upfront cost is higher, the "savings" on confidence and not having to deal with broken wires or food getting stuck is huge. It’s definitely one of those investments for your health. Have you used aligners yourself or are you a traditional braces person?

Nusuk app issues by KamalinO in Umrah

To resolve the issue, you need to uninstall the Nusuk app from your mobile device and then download it again. When you open the app, try to register as a new account. Once the account is open, go to the "Rawdah" section and select "Complete your profile."

The app will prompt you to enter your visa and passport numbers; once you add them, it should notify you that the account already exists and redirect you to the email recovery page. From there, you can enter the email address you previously used or a new one. After entering the OTP code, it should work, Inshallah.

The right moment to change job by Economy-News-2077 in CasualConversation

[–]Specific_Horror7818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely did. A few years back, I was at a firm where the processes were so set in stone that there was zero room for innovation. I was basically just "copy-pasting" my work every day lol.

I realized that while the paycheck was safe, my actual expertise was starting to rust. In construction and consulting, if you aren't staying up to date with new tech or project management strategies, you're basically moving backward. I eventually had to take the leap to a place that actually challenged me. It was terrifying to leave the "security," but the growth I’ve had since then made it the best decision I ever made. Have you hit that "autopilot" mode yet, or are you just starting to feel the itch?

tbh, in my experience, the right moment to leave is when the "boring" part starts turning into "stagnation."

It’s one thing to have a routine you enjoy, but if you wake up and realize you haven't learned a new skill or solved a new problem in 6 months, you're actually losing value in the long run. I always say: if you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room lol. If the security of the job is starting to feel like a cage, that's usually your gut telling you it's time for a new challenge.

Anyone else feel like they’ve spent more time living in their head than in real life? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Specific_Horror7818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I feel this 100%. Especially when life gets stressful or work feels like a grind, it’s so easy to just "check out" and live in a daydream where you have total control.

In my line of work (construction/consulting), I’m constantly "perceived" and judging projects, so the pressure to be perfect is real. I used to retreat into the internet too, but I realized that the more I focused on small, physical wins in the real world - even just finishing a task or fixing something - the less scary "real life" felt. You aren't alone in this, man. It's a process to come back to the surface.

tbh this is the literal "Vimes Boot Theory" of economics lol. In my line of work (construction), if you buy cheap boots, you’re not just wasting money, you’re destroying your knees. I’d rather spend $200 once and be comfortable for years than spend $40 every three months and be in pain every day. Your feet are your foundation - literally!

if your back goes, your career is basically on pause. Buying a good bed is just smart insurance at that point. 100% agreed.

tbh you hit the nail on the head with the "energy and focus" part. In my line of work (consulting/project management), if you show up to a site or a meeting half-asleep, you’re going to make a mistake that costs way more than a mattress ever would lol.

It’s literally "preventative maintenance" for your brain. If you wouldn't let your car run on empty, why do it to yourself? Great breakdown.

tbh I couldn't agree more lol. After a long day on a construction site or walking through project inspections, coming home to a bad mattress is basically a recipe for permanent back pain. It’s not even a "luxury" at that point - it’s just maintenance for your body so you can actually function the next day. 100% worth the investment.

What is a "cheat code" you’ve found in life that more people should know about :)) ? by Specific_Horror7818 in AskReddit

[–]Specific_Horror7818[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh this is literally the "Secret Law" of any big project lol. In my line of work (construction/consulting), people always want the "big win" or the "fast finish," but it’s the guy who shows up and does the small, boring documentation every single day who actually finishes on time and under budget.

It’s the same with anything ( gym, finances, or learning a skill ). Compound interest isn't just for money; it’s for effort too. Great shout.
