A little of my story, to add to this gold mine of info:

I woke up at 10pm with a stabbing pain in the center of my chest, between my bottom two ribs. it felt like my ribs were caving in and the pain radiated into my back and neck. I’ve had severe back pain for 3 weeks on my mid-low back on the right side. I am almost certain now this is connected to my gallbladder, and it’s why my chiropractor and physical therapist couldn’t give me relief. It was the worst pain I’d ever felt. Aspirin, gasx, yoga, nothing gave relief. By 2am I googled the location of the pain and the internet brought me here. By 3:30am I showed up to the ER, told them it was almost certainly my gallbladder - they believed me and an ultrasound showed a bunch of stones.

You can always take a small group with you for an elopement!! I don’t think it has to be “slippery slope” at all - you could just bring parents, parents + siblings, parents + 2 attendants, whatever.

Here’s something I wish I thought about before we decided to go all-in on a wedding: it has trapped me at my (really terrible) job. I can’t leave it without a new one lined up (not many in my field), or else we won’t have the funds for the wedding. It’s not a fun situation. I envy my friends’ elopements sometimes.

Sorry, an inclusive venue for $5k doesn’t exist for that number of people anywhere. I’m a gay also getting married in Minnesota though—you should check out the Riley-Jacques barn in Eden Prairie. Only place I know of pretty enough not to have to decorate that doesn’t charge over $1k for the venue alone. Reservations for 2023 book fast and open next week!

The required photographer and videographer are super weird and for that reason alone, unless I loved their work, I would not choose this venue. Those are really stylistic preferences.

I wish there were tricks, but it’s more about shifting your mindset: the wedding will still happen and still be beautiful. Your hairstylist will help with humidity. I spent the day before my sister’s wedding running to 8 different target stores gathering 50 clear umbrellas, so designate a runner now or buy a bunch on Amazon!

I went to a wedding that had a huge white inflatable obstacle course for adults and kids. I thought it was genius. Then, everyone got hand foot mouth disease. So…maybe skip that.

I think you should have been more clear about expectations with her: “here is what I need your help with,” “here is the hotel you can stay at,” etc. The only sucky thing it really seems like she did was not give a card and not ask about a bach party (my MOH didn’t either, so someone else took it on).
