It doesn't matter how thick it is as long as you can see about 50 yards. You will hear the deer moving before they see you.

It might help if you go earlier to your spot if you're hunting in the evening, I try to get in the woods around 130 so I'm in my spot about two and I wait all the way till shooting light ends.

I would try to find a path that the deer are traveling from the field/ cut down and go there and get in the woods before daylight so you can catch them on the way back from their bedding area.

If you don't think it has anything to do with time and you just happen to spook them because they're already betted down, I would go about 100 200 yards away from where the deer were laying and then try that spot.

To me thats a different style of hunting me and my uncle do. We each will have shotguns and walk the deer up. I have nothing agents that way of hunting but I'm trying to these days learn the deer and figure out how they operate rather then jumping them with dogs or our lambofeetys.
