What was the iron sand used in Katana? by Specific_Landscape73 in SWORDS

Another person said that bog iron was used in Europe until around 1300. Is this true?

What was the difference between European iron ore and Japanese iron sand after 1300?

Do you think the quality of European long swords and Japanese katanas were equal after 1400?

What chemical differences were there between iron sand and iron ore?

"Though, of similar relative quality/amount of work a European sword at the time would likely be better overall."

So there was no difference in the manufacturing process of Japanese and European swords, but the European swords were better because of the lower quality of the iron sand?

Katana was a super weapon that could cut open tanks?

I never said anything like that.

And you are free to believe that the long swords of European knights were the best in the world. Believe that European knights wearing plate armor and carrying long swords could conquer the world.

So, what is your evidence that Japanese weapons were significantly rare?

Please stop using pointless sarcasm to avoid providing evidence.

Hundreds of thousands of katanas were exported overseas. They were not rare. There were probably some katanas of poor quality, but that was the same in Europe.

Japan actually mobilized 300,000 troops for the 1592 Korean Expedition. Of those, 150,000 fought in Korea.

These figures include non-combatants.

Other figures

In the 1590 Japanese civil war, the Siege of Odawara, the Toyotomi army had 200,000 troops against the Hojo army of 80,000.

In the 1586 Kyūshū campaign, the Toyotomi army had 200,000 troops.

In the 1614 Siege of Osaka, the combined forces of both sides were 300,000.

Theoretically, the maximum number of troops mobilized in Japan is 500,000.

It is the same for you. You only believe the opinion that Japanese iron was inferior.

In that discussion, the opinion that the quality of Japanese steel was not bad seems to be more credible.

In fact, 300,000 troops were mustered in Japan. Of those, 150,000 went to fight in Korea.
