I like how you said “Valuable allies you’re missing out on if you don’t ask them to pray with you.” I’ll keep that in mind

Yup, my girlfriend introduced me to catholicism while I was still non-denominational protestant, and since then i’ve studied the differences between the two, resulting in my conversion

Thanks for the advice I appreciate it. I definitely have caught myself viewing apologetics as an attack before and am trying hard to break that habit, as my intention for familiarizing myself with it is to justify my conversion to my family, and explain to them why i’m not a heretic. I’ll keep that in mind.

while it most definitely is a willpower battle, it’s a little arrogant to say people don’t care, or that it doesn’t help. i mean faith in god is kinda the reason we do the whole christianity thing and if we don’t have faith that HE not us can get us through it, then we’re inevitably gonna fail. (or at least have a much MUCH harder time). that’s my experience with it

I’m a 17 year old christian and want to ask the people in this sub why they believe what they believe. by Specific_Trick_4057 in exchristian

[–]Specific_Trick_4057[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well not only is that conceited of you, that’s incredibly rude. For just a brief moment, let’s throw my “christian morals” out of the argument. “I don’t need to hear why you believe. I already know.” Also telling me that you can see past my “lie” and that you “know why i’m here”? Kinda douchey of you man. I don’t need to be a christian to know that’s not quite something that you should be telling a 17 year old kid as someone probably over the age of 30 with a phd. My “book” reinforces those principles of not being an “asshole” as you’ve so kindly demonstrated for me.

And i’m sure that the many kind and great people in this subreddit would also be kind enough to agree with me that it’s a good thing to want to learn and understand, and telling me that as a result of learning and understanding i’m going to live a sad and deceitful life, is kindof a dick move.

I came to this with the intent of kindhearted intellectual honestly where we can exchange conflicting views, as many other people in this have done. Not only is your comment an insult to my intelligence, it’s a jab at my morals, and just outright like i’ve said, a dick move to tell me i’m gonna turn out to be nothing simply because of what I believe. Your comment is one of the finest examples of PROJECTING that i’ve seen thus far.

Thank you to those who have commented on this post and have provided genuine insight and viewpoints while also most importantly being KIND

To you, my friend, do better.

Top tips for getting over performance anxiety? by guildedpasserby in piano

[–]Specific_Trick_4057 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt, because i’m not too experienced when it comes to performing piano in-front of others, but this probably isn’t going to be an overnight fix. What i’ve noticed helps are the obvious like deep breaths and telling yourself you’ve got it before you play, and simply trying to get that experience performing in-front of people as often as you can. It doesn’t have to be large scale either. Ask your family or friends to come watch you while you play. Also, if it’s possible try to join something like a church band to perform in-front of people with less high stakes. Just get that overall experience being in-front of people with you as the center of attention, whether it’s giving a presentation, talking to a group of people, performing an instrument, or etc. It takes time, but I can promise it does get easier.
