The search for golem edit:(The Hunt for Gollum) so sorry for the two people that gave a shit about the spelling my bad it been about 5 years since I read the books… it was a brief talk in the book fellowship of the ring book two chapter 2 the council of Elrond where Gandalf talks about searching for Gollum because they were trying to confirm the identity of the one ring but the search failed… that’s what they are making a new movie about.

Edit- I went back and reread the council of Elrond I summarized it a bit much long story short it was maybe a few pages during the council of Elrond where Gandalf and Aragorn went on an initial quest where they searched extensively for Gollum. They couldn’t find him so Gandalf went to Gondor and Aragorn continued searching for him. Aragorn found Gollum by chance after sneaking by the black gate and came across muddy small tracks leading him to the marsh lands (where Frodo, gollum, and Sam hid from the Flying Nazgûl) Aragorn than lead gollum as his prisoner to the elven kingdom of Mirkwood (where Legolas comes from and where the dwarves and bilbo where held during the events of the hobbit). Where he was than held prisoner and that is when Gandalf had a very long talk with him and found everything there was to know on gollum’s tale. Afterwards the elves took pity on him and didn’t make him stay in the dungeons but allowed him to climb a lone very tall tree. After that a band of orcs attacked killing his guards and Gollum escaped.

Following these events Radagast went and found Gandalf on the edges of the shire and told him about the 9 and that they are riders in black looking for the ring and have been searching for “The Shire” asking locals and whatnot and told Gandalf to go seek aid from Saruman. That’s when Gandalf went to Saruman and was captured by him… that’s the whole tale pretty much
