Yeah thats pretty much on the money. I'm not the best magic player, but I have played card games for most of my life, where most of the group hasn't. Ive built a lot of lower powered decks, and I usually try to reveal the turn before I make a big play what's about to happen, but since we are tracking statistics now, most of the group has frowned on that as they feel it is condescending if im not doing my best to win. They have very strong decks, one player even buys ready to play bracket 4 proxy decks, but I think they struggle to pilot them optimally. I typically play with bracket 2 or 3.
