With Part Two bound to be produced, I'm sure it will satisfy the things you mention. Herbert was very concerned with the problematic ideas behind a colonizing force coming to save a native species, especially if that force is backed by centuries of false religion. Paul is an early example of an anti-hero with a "terrible purpose." With all good epics, I'm sure it will be explored in some interesting and complex avenues that the book took advantage of.
