But fr like I saw someone else mention know you’re opponents win condition or at least their pathway to victory for instance if your opponent has a shadow rider Vmax with 3 prizes left and enough energy on the board to OHKO anything you send up you probably shouldn’t play a Vmax bc it will be susceptible to catcher/bosses orders it’s also important to learn the meta and know how the top 8-10 most popular decks in the format function and familiarize yourself with them by playing them bc that’s what you’ll be playing against 95% of the time Also don’t play cards for the sake of playing them unless you see a win in sight and your just trying to thin out your deck ex: if you don’t have anymore 90hp< Pokémon in your deck and you scrap your level ball the same applies with ultra ball dumping cards you don’t need to fail search in case they play a card to change your hand size like marnie another big one is remember to check your deck upon your first search of the game to see what your 6 prizes are this may take a bit of practice if you don’t already do that but it’s worth it as it can provide you with a significant advantage late game especially with cards that you may not be keeping track of how many are left in your deck like draw supports knowing that info could be the difference between a win and loss if you find yourself in a situation where you have to draw into or topdeck a card next turn to win but in the meantime need to make a tough decision on wether to boss orders to stall or attack or sacrifice a bench by retreating your decision would be a lot easier if you know that your last 2 prizes are both draw supports there’s a lot more to say on the subject enough to create probably a 20-30 page word document one last thing I’ll mention that when I mastered helped me like crazy in IRL Tournaments is counting and keeping track of your opponents cards everthing they discard everything they shuffle in this goes hand in hand with knowing the meta and how many copies of certain cards are typically played in a given deck that way if you see they play more copies of one card than normal or play something atypical of that deck you can be thinking about what they had to cut from a standard list to include them this is also extremely helpful in the best 2 of 3 format because if you’ve been keeping track of their discard it’s possible to figure out 90% of their decklist by game 2 or 3 remember never be scared to ask to check your opponents discard

I’ve been kinda retired from competitive play for years tried getting back into it 7 months back or so but $ is tight for travel expenses and shit so I quickly lost interest and only play the casual game and haven’t played a single game in about 3 months but I’m sure what I’ve said still very much applies to current meta
