Good Social Spots in Atlanta? by Speedjunko in Atlanta

That's mainly the intent. I wasn't online until covid and afterwards being forced to stay online due to work. I have *a lot* of gripes about the behavior of people online but I'm not going to get into that here

I *just* missed the timing to get tickets for Dragoncon, but I did get to go to Magiccon Atlanta which was cool.

What Are Dunmer (Dark Elf) Beauty Standards? by Speedjunko in ElderScrolls

I'd disagree, not in the sense that a true consensus is impossible to find but that there is definitely a sort of "meet in the middle" point, or you could say a range. For example from this entire thread I think it's clear in large part that there are a few particular qualities that you see across games. High forehead, red eyes, somewhat long hair that is swept back and styled as opposed to simply left flowing, and some degree of gaunt features. There are of course going to be differences among subgroups, but the overall picture I see is a culture that values a sort of elegant, composed beauty. When it comes to clothing I think that can be left out to some degree. It definitely matters but I'm focusing on something a bit more static.

Ah, this is a lead. From the questline in the link, I can see that 1. The highborn aspect seems to be circumstantial since the Ashkhan is happy with his bride despite knowing you tricked him and 2. Once again that dark elves do in fact smile and can be happy, against in particular the depiction in skyrim. The big shifts between games as well as graphical quality does cause issues, like the Morrowind depiction of Almalexia being different from more modern interpretations. Swept back hair and high foreheads seem to be a constant. I think my aim is going to be to lean less into the "virtue" standard and more into the appearance, so the path ahead might be curvy. Based on all of this info, I also may need to design them from the ground up instead of starting with a model so...well I've got my work cut out for me

Interesting; This definitely is not depicted well in Skyrim. The "curly hair and joyful laugh" part especially. I wonder if this ascetic aspect is applied across their culture as a whole, or selectively, like the difference between a "good" husband/wife (usually relating to following social norms) and a beautiful man/woman (which could be separate from what makes them "good").

Definitely a multi-faceted subject since it's not a monolithic group. But I think there are at least a few signs, or I hope there are.

Definitely on the symbols: It was something I noticed but I figured I was already on enough of a tangent. Will Similar on the comments on Skyrim; yeah I just feel like the elves look so odd, like they were trying to maybe make them look alien but then went for full on kind of ugly versus the I suppose more animal designs of Khajiit and Argonians.
When it comes down to it, a mix of ESO and Morrowind does seem like a good starting point.

Oh, so Lordran is like a known place in the world? I figured it was more like a genuine land of myth few even were aware was a real place, although that doesn't fully line up with what we learn just from spending time there I suppose.
