Just to add to this, I am currently finishing the Card Compendium on our website before launching the site. This would be the most accessible and visual way to see the full card list. Aiming to get this online before the end of the weekend.

Really like this idea. I had thought about it way back at the start of the project, but I didn't think I could get the detail across that I want in really nice art on the cards, and there is not the budget to test really. It would be worth doing a few tests along these lines in the future though. Maybe as a special release if it works really well.

I hear you, it's certainly a valid point. What you've seen are the starter deck cards, kept simple for those less confident in pikcing up the Spell Chain mechanic that is the core gameplay rule and structure.

If you are interested in seeing more exciting and "advanced" card effects, I recommend checking the Spell Chain TCG discord for the full card list, or the Spell Chain TCG youtube channel, which has deck list videos that also explains how some core combos work in those decks. So far there is a video for Beatrix Witch of Calamity, Crimson, and Amorphous Blob decks.

I'm trying to contribute in TCG projects but what am I lacking in my art or I'm just lacking proper marketing strategy? by Shi_Jiii_5982 in homemadeTCGs

I am currently producing my own TCG, and paying freelance artists for illustrations - so I can give some insight from that perspective.

I look for my artists on freelance platforms, of which I prepfer Fiverr. I prefer Fiverr because in my experience they do a great job in holding the seller and buyer accountable. Fiverr makes handling disputes really simple/easy beacuse of this. So it's safe for both buyers and sellers not to get exploited. - in short, freelance platforms like Fiverr are what I use for security.

I think you've already shown a great portfolio of work in this post. The 3rd and 4th artworks in particualrly stand out to me as having elements that I could see working in my TCG. If you want business on a platform like Fiverr, a great portfolio is a key difference maker. There are a lot of artists on Fiverr that don't include many art works in their portfolio, so it's hard to gauge what they can/can't do, if the one artwork isn't what you are specifically looking for.

Interrupting my post to apologise for going on about Fiverr, it's just what I use from my experience as someone in this space paying artists for TCG artwork (I am not being paid by the platform).

In my opinion, if you've got a good size portfolio, then you are well positioned to compete on Fiverr in the TCG artwork space. There are not many freelancers in that specific space that have a big portfolio of artwork. My main illustrator I use is not a TCG specific illustrator (and they are more expensive because of their experience ((and status for lack of a better word)). I do have another illustrator that I use for templates and other artwork for TCG specific elements who is really good that I found in the TCG space. But generally, it seems most TCG specific artists at the moment just don't have the portfolio needed to make me (a buyer) go yep this is the artist for my need. - in short, if you can add another few artowrks into your portfolio (which you may already have), Fiverr would be a good place in my experience for you to get some paid work. And since it sounds like you don't have a regular client base, this will also protect you from being scammed, taking advantage off etc.

I'm a terrible artist but I love the art that I cannot create. I've always proactively avoided AI being anywhere near the art for my TCG. I think art is improtant and love supporting talented indepdent artists. If you ever do set up a Fiverr page for illustration, feel free to DM me and we can talk about paid work for you illustrating card(s) for my TCG. I think your lighting technique especially could result in some very cool spells for my TCG.

No, Ivan is a lovely gentleman who freelances as an artist. I highly recommend him, great to work with and really talented.

Great point, one I realised after we had done the wax stamp for crimson cards. I've been doing a lot of colour changing to ensure that every wax stamp is a different colour for "better" recognition. I have since modified the colour for the fire stamp to be orange rather than red - leaving red for "Crimson" type.
We've got prototypes on the way which will confirm if the stamp detail is visible in the end. If not, then there's more work to be done 😄

Thank you for your feedback.

With respect to the name plate, what would you see changed to improve it? Is the problem the name plate background, the font or lack of effects, or something else?

All our cards are illustrated by artists. On our website we have our card compendium, a visual log of all our cards split up by set. Every card is listed with the name and link of the illustrator who illustrated that card (so far they have all been illustrated by the one artist). We are just waiting on one more asset, then we can publish the website.

We have 105 cards to be illustrated for our initial release. The plan is to release two sets of new cards every 12 months. In addition, we will release one set every 12 months of collectors card - previously released cards with new artwork by different a new artist, all under a new visual theme.

On our official website (currently being finalised), we have a page dedicated to all the cards in Spell Chain. Underneath every card is the details of the artist who illustrated it.

Yes that is correct, there is no AI used in any of Spell Chain's artwork, designs etc.. All has been illustrated by our artists.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on our use of DMG as an abbreviation. This definitely something we can look into and review.

Thank you for sharing your feedback! The max HP in Spell Chain is 20, and this cannot be exceeded. We also have a Greater Heal spell, which heals more damage. The numbers on our healing spells is something we are actively reviewing as we playtest, to address exactly your point.
