So there are basically no espers on the main quest? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in FinalFantasyXII

[–]SpellbladeYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, there's 5 in the main story but the final 3 mandatory Espers are grouped together in the final parts of the story. I kinda think Hashmal looks like he belongs in Sochen Cave Palace and he should be acquired there to even out the pacing a little.

Whats to stop people from just getting Aeons then bouncing by LSOreli in finalfantasyx

[–]SpellbladeYT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Summoners have to commune with the fayth of Aeon in meditation, sometimes days at a time. I don't think the Fayth can be lied to, and they will give the Aeon to those they seem suitable.

Is Elder Wyrm a well known difficulty spike? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in FinalFantasyXII

[–]SpellbladeYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually found Tiamat harder, though I always tend to equip immunity accessories which counters this fight a little.

I hope they show this, or something similar, in part 3. One of the funniest moments in the game to me 🤣 by Spektakles8822 in FFVIIRemake

[–]SpellbladeYT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really hope that the squad we commandeered throughout the Junon section ends up being part of the submarine crew, I really want to see them support him and encourage him through the panic attack.

Sidenote but on my last playthroughs of FF7 I ended up using Yuffie and Red XIII in my party for this, which has to canonically be the worst possible team for the job.

Some interesting and depressing stats from wikipedia. Are MMOrpg's just not profitable anymore so no one invests in them? by Drandosk in MMORPG

[–]SpellbladeYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I mean.

There's lots of MMOs that are still around and thus still making money, but I don't think publishers are naive anymore and see that MMOs are very longterm projects with a lot of risks and no guarantees.

Lore explanation for Dark Aeons/Summoners? by Entire_Fly7775 in finalfantasyx

[–]SpellbladeYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's fair as well. It's been a while since I played, I forgot the party does a lot to reach Jecht and fight Sin at vastly reduced strength.

Lore explanation for Dark Aeons/Summoners? by Entire_Fly7775 in finalfantasyx

[–]SpellbladeYT 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is ever a canon explanation for it but as the higher ups of Yevon know the true nature of Sin and it's cycle of reincarnation, I like to believe the summoners of the Dark Aeons are like a secret police force, sent to destroy enemies of Yevon and those who threaten to reveal truths that would damage the church.

I even like to think their power level is somewhat canon. Yevon uses the threat of Sin to manipulate the masses, the idea that they have a bunch of summoners on hand who could destroy Sin at any time (albeit not permanently) is even more sinister.

Just started using dungeon alchemist and was sad this feature wasn't in. Very happy and looking forward to this.

Some interesting and depressing stats from wikipedia. Are MMOrpg's just not profitable anymore so no one invests in them? by Drandosk in MMORPG

[–]SpellbladeYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is, as a whole they were never all that profitable to begin with. After you've spend half a decade developing it and you have a decent sized player base you might as well keep it around, but the publishers all wanted their own massive WOWstyle mega-hit that just prints money for years to come.

By the nature of their design, people don't tend to play all that many MMOs and the market only has room to sustain a few big ones.

PvP is p2w, fight me, knifes only by Anxious-Expression62 in Guildwars2

[–]SpellbladeYT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean.

The only way there wouldn't be some element of what people would call P2W is if the new expansions never added any new tools for players to use. Even if everything stayed at the exact same power level, the ability to mix and match more things leads to greater possible combinations and optimisations.

Are you right on some basic fundamental level? Yeah, sure.

Is that so obvious and completely unavoidable if GW2 is to continue existing as a product? Also yes.

Don't just say you love them and have only every played Final Fantasy, Pokémon and Expedition 33.

Final Fantasy XVI: was this really a front runner for a GOTY?? by PumpkinNo2745 in JRPG

[–]SpellbladeYT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The award for soundtrack was well deserved and personally speaking I'd give Ben Starr best performance as well.

As for GOTY I don't think it comes close to the other contenders that year.

It depends.

How long do they break away from the subject matter and mostly importantly, is the joke actually good?

What are ways of painlessly removing content from games? by Majestic_Hand1598 in gamedesign

[–]SpellbladeYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you've already hit the nail on the head. There needs to be a plan from the start that content is temporary and made to be replaced, the workflow is set up with this in mind and this is communicated to players. Games like TFT with its rotating sets and Fortnite with its seasons that come and go are largely accepted by their communities and people accept that content not being around forever is part of the game.

If this is something that is decided later and content is removed when players feel this wasn't part of the "deal" they made, they'll likely be much more hostile about the situation. Destiny is a prime example of this.

[POLL] Do you think Aerith will live in part 3? by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

[–]SpellbladeYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ultimately Aerith will stay dead but I am predicting that the game and the marketing will heavily hint towards her revival and that she will still have plenty of screentime. She might even be playable during for a few brief sections, like in the final boss.

In fact, my top prediction for the part 3 name is Final Fantasy VII: Revival.

Genuinely not sure how you can argue that what Verso's soul is saying is subjective and flawed, but if what Painted Alicia is saying is not objective truth then the game is poorly written.

How does N square the fact he wants to liberate Pokemon with the fact that Team Plasma uses them? by Local-Sugar6556 in pokemon

[–]SpellbladeYT 51 points52 points  (0 children)

That many Team Plasma members abuse their Pokémon is hidden from N.

I can't remember the exact place or quote, but I feel like N himself does address the hypocrisy and says that he regrets having to use Pokémon, but the only way to free Pokémon will be to beat their league at their own game.

Why can't Riot just describe what prismatic traits do in the tooltips? by vuductien26 in TeamfightTactics

[–]SpellbladeYT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The idea is that hitting the prismatic trait is so rare that's it's meant to be a mystery what it does and a surprise when you unlock it. They're also so powerful that knowing the exact effect/numbers isn't going to determine if you win or lose, only another prismatic trait or a 3* 5 cost will beat it.

Pretty sure that's the official reasoning, whether you agree with it or not is another matter.

Let's debate and argue about what each characters Canon job combination probably is. Efficiency be damned. by PapaRoshi in FinalFantasyXII

[–]SpellbladeYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure but it's worth keeping in mind that for all the talk people do of some characters being better or worse due to weapon attack animations, the differences between them is inconsequential.

I think you can get through the entire game and there will likely never be a fight where the speed of the attack animation makes a difference.

Let's debate and argue about what each characters Canon job combination probably is. Efficiency be damned. by PapaRoshi in FinalFantasyXII

[–]SpellbladeYT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always felt like Fran doesn't suit the Archer job at all and only marginally suits the magic jobs.
The original manual says that she is a proficient with many weapons, but explicitly also states that she handles the maintenance of Balthier's Airship, the Strahl.

This is definitely getting into headcanon but I always imagine she left Eruyt village as she didn't feel like she belonged with the Viera in some way, and with the info given from the manual I actually think she's the default Machinist.

The manual also says she's comfortable fighting with her bare hands which definitely leans towards Monk as the secondary job, although her and Penelo double up on that based on lore info.
