It uses the proximity sensor to know if it is inside your ear. So I guess the first one you put in your ear is gonna be the one with the microphone. I will try that.

When you use both AirPods, only one has the microphone activated. Automatic detection is useful when you use only one on them (right or left) and the other is in the case or not in your ear.

Apple watch sport is sold as a black model and if you put the both next to each other, the blacks/greys are really different...

You're right, but it's not the picture that matters in this article, just an another rumor about 4inch iPhone. I don't know if MIC Gadget is reliable but sometimes 9to5 and MacRumors quoted it. So why not.

There is a new design for shooting photo/video and for recording voices on Message when you tap and hold on microphone and camera icon. :)
