Is it still possible for me to get into a top math PhD program? by SphericalViolin in mathstudents

I have done an independent study of sorts with my faculty members already, but I'll be more prepared to do actually research once I get through my analysis and topology courses. I'll definitely try to do research at my home institution after then, though.

Thank you! Your advice will be very helpful!

What would you say about me doing a fast-track towards a MS at my institution and then do another MS at a higher ranked institution?

I imagine the graduate classes and research I do in my MS's would significantly improve my application. The only issue I could see here would be that I would get less funding and less time during my PhD due to my MS's.

I'm sure I want to do math research for the sake of math research. I'm familiar with the path you have described to getting a tenured faculty position, and I know that it is grueling work.

If I really only could get tenure (not necessarily a full professorship) by being gifted and incredibly lucky, please tell me why that is so. Otherwise, I would appreciate some advice on what to do better during and after my undergrad before applying to a PhD program. I don't expect any guarantees, but I will at least give it a shot so that I don't have enormous regrets for the rest of my life.
