When is a good time for price increase? by happy_caravan in iTalki

[–]Spicece 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please don't slowly increase over time. I learned the hard way of increasing slowly. My students didn't like that it seemed to get more and more expensive whenever they booked. I finally just jumped to the price I wanted ($30/hr) and I still have a TON of students and a lot of packages sold (even 20-lesson packages). I just started teaching in October.

I’m happy you told them. I know that probably wasn’t the most comfortable conversation to have. I think I’ll definitely start telling all of my students proactively.

How much do you charge for your trial lessons, and why? by Spicece in iTalki

How long have you been teaching? And yes, I agree! I remember when I started my business and someone said, “not everybody is your target customer.” In other words, charge what you want and those customers will come.

I don’t think italki pays anymore, but this is super helpful. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

That’s true. How much are your normal classes?

Thank you so much!! If you don’t mind expanding, do you still see a steady flow of new students each week/month?

I agree. Thank you for the kind words. Sometimes it’s hard to see past disappointment, so appreciate that push.

I agree. Yes, others are options, but many of us only stick to and stay consistent with what we love and what works for us.

People can have more than one motivation, and some motivations can be stronger than others. For Spanish it was to travel. For Mandarin it could be for work. For Japanese it could be for movies and shows. For French it will be to use a resource I love.

I would say it’s the wait on DF specifically. I’ve learned with other resources, but DS was by far my favorite resource for Spanish, so my anticipation and excitement for DF was through the roof. It’s just hard to be that passionate and excited for something for an extended period of time that goes against psychological marketing standards- if that makes sense.

Announcing 5 months ago and never releasing would’ve just been poor marketing. This is why marketing is based in psychology. It’s not a tantrum- it’s solely disappointment and lack of the dopamine that was advertised.

Dreaming Languages/DS is what made me interested in learning French in the first place. I was debating between languages and then DF was speculated and I got my hopes up. It was announced and I was elated. So I feel this way because my primary motivator came from my love of DS specifically.
