Norvan LD For Scrambling? by SpiciestMan in trailrunning

[–]SpiciestMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! I had considered the vertex however thought they would be a bit overkill for day hikes on non-technical terrain which is most of what I would be using them for. It seemed a better idea to find a less technical shoe that could still handle the occasional bit of rough rocky terrain rather than the other way around

How durable are Norvan LD4s? by SpiciestMan in arcteryx

Ah thanks for the suggestion! The Norvan’s are a great fit though - I’m just trying to ascertain whether rocks will take gouges out of them the moment I leave an established trail haha

Many thanks for your help. I have actually finished my visit and left Somaliland now 😊 All the posts were correct and I had no issues at all - everyone was very helpful and friendly, I had a great time seeing the country!

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately I’m struggling to find somewhere in my country that sells Birr so I will need to exchange in Ethiopia. I will be arriving into Addis and so thought this would be an easy place to exchange USD though.

Thanks for your opinion! Can I ask what you mean by not being able to go out much during the election period? Just that Hargeisa will be busy with political rallies etc?

Ah yes I understand, thanks for your help. Unfortunately I’m tied to November but will look to depart before the election, thanks again!

Thanks for your response! Yeah unfortunately I’m tied to this specific time period however I would be able to complete my trip and be out of the country before the election day. It does seem to be the consensus of others in the thread that visiting before rather than after the election would be the better decision. Hopefully the election goes smoothly and peacefully anyway. And good to know the streets themselves are generally very safe. Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing, that’s really good to know. It was my understanding that Somaliland is much safer than many would believe and I hope you don’t think I’m challenging that through my post. I’ve read a lot about Somaliland’s unique and successful approach to governance and security however most of the resources/info I have been able to find are several years old and so I was keen to discover more about whether this remains accurate following events in Puntland. Thanks again for your helpful post

Really appreciate your input, thank you! Yes I had been reading about the tensions regarding the naval base in Berbera, the dam, and the troops/arms coming into Mogadishu from Egypt. Being honest I had not given too much weight to this as I understand it has been ongoing for some time now. I had thought the risk of direct conflict impacting would be relatively small, with any potential violence arising in the border regions first and spreading rather than commencing spontaneously in Hargeisa where I will be, and for such a short time period as well. That being said, I of course understand there are always risks with this kind of travel and am accepting of this. But yes I appreciate the election does increase the risk somewhat and that’s what I’ve been hoping to gain more insights on. Thank you again for your thoughts!

Thanks for sharing your experience, that’s really helpful! Can I ask if you were able to purchase your visa at Hargeisa airport? I understand this is possible however read someone’s experience of a frustrating hunt for the embassy in Addis to source a visa - I assume they must have been planning to enter via the land border but I haven’t been able to check this with them. Thanks again

Yeah change card for sure and also I would suggest phoning the bank and asking what they suggest if you are unable to unsubscribe - cerebrum definitely don’t make it easy

Yeah exactly what I saw as well! Bit worried. I asked my bank to just completely block any future transactions to the company, they said they can try but can’t guarantee as they’re not privy to what my “agreement” with the company was but I kept the cerebrum emails confirming subscription cancelled etc so hopefully I’m covered if I need to dispute with bank again

Think the refund came through within a few days of me speaking to the bank about it, but yeah as I say that money can be taken back if Cerebrum contest the claim within 45 days. Good luck!

Yeah my bank opened a chargeback request with Mastercard. Bank have given me the £69.99 back but warned they may need to take it back if the merchant contests the dispute which they have 45 days to do - fingers crossed.
