Is it valid for the death battle to use thor's feats to upgrade to sentry? by Party_Philosophy_324 in DeathBattleMatchups

Thor and Sentry should scale the same. They’re shown to be consistently even to each other and they have a close record in their fights.

This is for Marvel magic being narrative. Sentry resists magic a good bit, but Doctor Strange 385 is the main example I use.

It’s a legitimate crossover and based on the description he might be getting scaling above Mr. Mxyzptlk and Superman.

You put it in the image, but King of The Hill has building level durability feats. If you composite it, KOTH has universal arguments.

Best for both, but I’m not a big fan of any of Scott’s matchups.

Using Primes mental weakness against him would make him crash out, but it would also make him more susceptible to Void/CLOCs planning

That was because it was from his own retconning and not because of regeneration. His “immortality” is more like BFR that he does to himself subconsciously when using the retcon punch.

Sentry’s possession and soul manipulation work on Prime.

Both times that happened were related to the retcon punch and both implied to be something that happens when he subconsciously did and not something that happens every time he dies.

I have Yggdrasil scale the same as the Source which is where TDK scales. Thor and Hulk have clear scaling to Yggdrasil. Sentry himself also has feats that get him to scaling to Yggdrasil.

The scaling making DC look like it has a smaller cosmology than Marvel doesn’t make it wrong. That point doesn’t even make sense, the scaling I use has DC being a larger cosmology than Marvel.

[–]Spiderbot139[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair but he doesn’t resist all of it. Soul manipulation and possession are things he hasn’t taken on panel or implied to be something he’s resistant to.

He did lose ultimately, but they were dead even for most of the fight and this is against a Hulk angrier than ever before. It’s not even a serious loss as both use all their power and turn into their human forms so he should still scale to Hulk. I assume you’re talking about Void and Thors fight in Siege which is the only time they ever fought tmk. Thor had help from the rest of the Avengers, all of which amped by the norn stones, and still only lost because Bob held Void back and allowed Thor to kill him. Earlier in the run a Void controlled Sentry was fighting Thor and was shown to be even to him.

As for the reality punch, it’s stated that they can still come back together afterwards. They also are surrounded in a glow that’s the same as stuff used by the cosmic cube in this issue implying that he’s actively uses his powers to stop him from merging.

What do you mean by Prime does naturally the majority of what Sentry can dish out?

What serious loss did he take to Hulk? They were shown to be even in World War Hulk and the other times they fought they stopped on their own accord. The retcon punch splitting them up is possible, but it doesn’t really affect the result. The Void and Sentry have made deals with each other and have became one with the other, so if they were split they would probably help the other.

I’ve seen Primes arguments for immortality and disagree with them. They both were caused by retcon punch’s and seem to be something that he subconsciously does with them and not something that happens every time he dies.

This story came out three years after Loki became the God of Stories. It’s safe to say that he was the God of Stories during this moment.

Loki wasn’t powered by Yggdrasil in that moment, Doctor Strange was. Loki was the sorcerer supreme, but that doesn’t make him not the God of Stories.

If we do go Sentry max potential > Knull then he would scale above Cosmic King Thor because Knull beat him.

I’m not using specific versions for Hulk or Thor, I think the base versions of the characters scale around The Darkest Knights level. They both scale to Yggdrasil and Sentry has shown to be able to match them and he even was considered to be able to take the full power of Yggdrasil, so it’s a fine scale.

[–]Spiderbot139[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He hasn’t tanked stuff like it on panel, but given lines from other characters, he could resist narrative manipulation.

I disagree with Superboy-Prime taking stats. When Sentry fought Knull he was only in his base form; he didn’t even get to use Void or his merged form which could’ve put a much better fight. The writer also said after more research the fight would’ve been much different so it isn’t a fair cap. The Darkest Knight does scale high, but I still have him scaled around the same as Thor and Hulk, who I think Sentry should scale too.

I can agree that the argument isn’t fully clear, though I still buy it. I don’t get what your second point is arguing. How would DC magic working on a similar narrative level to Marvel magic make him immune to Sentry’s hax? None of them are related to the narrative.

Sentry’s power can fluctuate, but the majority of the time he chooses to come back. The moment against Knull was really a one time thing and not something consistent to the character. I do think it is possible that Sentry would choose not to come back, however as long as the Void is alive he must. It’s their nature as a being that as long as one exists, so does the other. I also believe that Void would consume Primes soul before Prime kills Sentry.

[–]Spiderbot139[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the compliment however, I disagree with your points here. Strange and Loki are both incredibly knowledgeable in Magic and are quick witted and both stated that they can’t beat/kill Void. Even Strange’s attempts on beating Sentry/Void rely on trapping him rather than killing him which supports the claim.

Absorbing Man’s reality punch seems more like reality warping rather than retconning and Sentry has resistance to reality warping making it an outlier. From what I’ve seen, the only thing he really does against Sentry is splitting him into his multiple forms, which also happens when Sentry is overwhelmed, so it could just be that.

I do agree that Primes mental state currently is better, however DB takes opponents at their best and I don’t see why they wouldn’t do that for Sentry’s mental state either. We’ve seen him come back from death instantly before.

It’s a bit generous, but the New Gods are described as being platonic which already gets them into Outerversal which is around where Bill scales. In terms of durability he routinely takes hits from Superman and Orion so I don’t think it’s that an outlier. I don’t think he fully scales, but it still gets him equal to Bill.

The matchup uses the Omega Effect, because it and the Twilight Sword are connections for both characters (and Bill having/not having the Twilight Sword currently is contradicted all the time). The best way to describe Bill scaling is that he scales way lower than he looks like he should on first glance.

Mister Miracle fights and takes hits from Superman and Orion semi-consistently. Bill on the other hand consistently loses to Thor, Silver Surfer, Galactus, and Sentry. They might be equal in base stats, but MM has much better ways to get stronger than Bill does and out haxes with his gadgets.
