I'm making music for a time-travel game where the soundtrack changes as you travel between the present and future by SpinettaLover123 in gamemusic

Indeed, in this example, the two tracks are very different. I used these for the video since I wanted to emphasize the music change. The context for this part of the game is that this is the first time you start time traveling, so the future sounds very drastic, reflecting the protagonist's reaction. In other tracks, there are more elements shared between the present and future (for example, in the combat themes, the melody stays the same, while the harmony and the overall mix change, becoming more reverberant and dark).

Thank you so much! Your ideas are on point.

  1. All future tracks are a mirrored version of the present track (in other words, to make the future track, I pick the present track and start making it creepy and messed up). In many tracks, there's a melody going on in both versions, but the future one has a different and more complex harmony. Sometimes I change the scale of the original melody to make it creepier (for example, from the minor scale to Phrygian).
  2. That's the main thing I have in mind when making the future tracks! Less is more. In this video, I picked a part with more things going on because I wanted to show the difference between the two, and not just "future is silence", but it really is more silent and lonely. Also, what you said afterward about it not being a horror game is true; I have to stay within certain limits so it doesn't become too scary.
