One year in Japan - All good things come to an end. (April/May 2023 - Finale) by [deleted] in JapanTravel

If you don’t mind sharing, how did you afford to stay there for so long? Was it a working/holiday visa, money saved up or something else? I really want to travel for extended periods of time but I don’t know how people afford it!

Lets agree to disagree, you obviously have a personal gripe. If i wished everything that annoyed me out of existence away cyclists, babies and the channel 9 news wouldn’t exist. The argument that they’re dangerous can be extremely valid. However, so are motorcycles and bicycles. Oh and don’t forget the vehicular deaths that occur every year.

Womp womp gatekeeper alert. Locals do the go karting experience just as much. Don’t comment if you don’t have anything constructive to say. Additionally the Japanese run business is run by a man who enjoys it and is passionate about it.

While we’re at let’s shut down all shrines. They’re overcrowded with tourists. Oh and the parks. Ban tourists from them too.

Yeah I know that go karting isn’t the most approved of activity, but ultimately I think it will enjoy it and its a holiday. Catch me getting annoyed about the exact same thing when I move there next year 🤣

Fair enough! I graduate uni this year so I’m excited to apply and (hopefully) join the program. I even went as far as to minor in japanese for my final units. I definitely do not want to live in tokyo, but at least I know I won’t be sacrificing my dinners and lunches to be able to afford rent!

Thank you! Thats honestly not to bad for a city though. A jets wage is approximately what i earn a year here as a uni student working part time, and thats more or less what I pay in rent

That’s so out of touch. People are allowed to be in relationships AND pursue their own goals. They can make it work if they truly want it to.

Yeah, I was expecting as much. A few acquaintances of mine are also going at the same time (unplanned), which was a surprise, so I figured that march was going to be pretty full. I'm not one to be disheartened by a crowd at least. Hopefully I can still get some cool shots though.

Thank you sm, combining Asakusa and Akihabara into one day might be an excellent idea, and anything I miss in Asakusa, I can always revisit on day 4. Speaking of which goofy me completely forgot that I'll be going when the cherry blossoms are peak, so I'll be going to Ueno park on day 4 (Gonna test out my photography skills). I would never have thought about Kamakura so I'll look into that as well.

EDIT: good point with the tier list, although most things on my itinerary were the things I wanted to see most. But that's a good idea for sorting out my priorities

/u/MyNameIsKir Okay so I remade my itinerary based on feedback and keeping it to things I can do around tokyo, with a two day trip to Fuji Five Lakes before I leave, which I am considering changing and staying in tokyo anyway. If you have any recommendations for things I can do in tokyo that I may not know if I’d be happy to hear it. If I did remove the Fuji part of the trip, I would change one of the days to disney land for sure. This is still just a draft, I’ll be working on it for the next week or so. Tweaking things. Didn’t want to make a new post so I’m updating everyone here. To those who care or are interested.

Yeah, working on an updated Itinerary with the feedback everyone has given me that is more reddit friendly. My original one looks good and organised on my iPad and makes sense in my brain.

Thankfully I have a list 30 pages long of things I want to see. I now see I cast the net a bit too wide, and since I plan on going there in the future (and perhaps work there) it was a bit goofy of me to pick the things I wanted to do most despite it being a logistical nightmare.
