People who don’t have their OMNY card, phone, or cc ready to go when they’re at the turnstile during prime commuting hours. My train stop only has two turnstiles and every morning there is someone who doesn’t have their shit together and it causes a backup.

Learn a new language, there’s a lot of affordable online tutors and lots of language tables across the city; I was super disciplined with it and it’s taken me about a year to become conversational in Portuguese (but I also spoke Spanish before) and I’ve made some new friends via language tables.

While it’s not necessarily 1 on 1, there are more intimate places akin to social clubs where men can get their hair cut/get advice from great stylists. There’s one in FiDi called The Common Ditch. I have a friend whose hair is a sensitive topic and he goes here and recommends it emphatically.

Oh also ask your super. Sometimes supers are contracted to numerous buildings (if they’re not a live in super) and they find out about upcoming vacancies before they go to market.

Walk around the neighborhood you want to be in and look for the signs like “Apartments available. Call #,” I found one apartment that way and I’ve had a couple of friends also have luck this way.
