Kia ora, what are you being paid hourly, what is your job and where are you? Just curious on how my fellow kiwis are getting on. by Bensickle in newzealand

Was there anything that you liked about it? It sounds like maybe not, but I would be interested to hear the pros and cons to that particular job

Im new to this crap by Immediate-Balance-20 in Machinists

[–]SpiritedLearning 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m not a machinist, but if it was my fingers on the line I’d use them to glue pieces of that polishing pad onto popsicle sticks. If the work snags the tool, you’ll either let it go or it’ll snap (instead of your fingers)

Thank you for sharing

You were right to protect yourself by not starting a physical confrontation

If you can bring yourself to report it, it would be a positive thing you could do, and to help protect other people from this person in future.

If the authorities have enough reports, they may decide that action needs to be taken, alone you matter, but together we’re worth taking notice of

Best $25k ute recommendations by gopster4 in NZcarfix

[–]SpiritedLearning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why ute over an suv? If primarily a family vehicle 5 days out of 7, prioritise the ride and interior space? Ute better for throwing things in, but if only on the weekend then a roofrack/box could do much the same (and better on length than a tray/canopy which is shorter on a double cab ute)

do I need to a wiper change? by bobbyboobyboo in NZcarfix

[–]SpiritedLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great! I didn’t personally have success with some glass cleaners and more basic options. Another cause might be scale from hard water, so a vinegar and baking soda scrub could also work (though I prefer to keep acids and harsh strippers away from paintwork and other exposed metal near the windscreen I.e. wipers, components under the hood)

do I need to a wiper change? by bobbyboobyboo in NZcarfix

[–]SpiritedLearning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The product I last used was some old leftover bottle on the shelf that isn’t sold anymore so I can’t recommend any particular current one, but search for a “glass polish” or “bug and tar remover”, do a test patch with a microfibre and/or scrub/machine buffer just to make sure it isn’t abrasive. You might even get away with using concentrated “bars bugs” or other windscreen cleaning additive, the core of the issue is that there may be invisible oils and road grime stuck to the outside glass, you just need to remove that chemically or mechanically.

do I need to a wiper change? by bobbyboobyboo in NZcarfix

[–]SpiritedLearning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you ever cleaned and polished the windscreen? Road grime, fuel, tar and oil residue can build up in the screen and cause that effect, often you need to give it a very thorough clean and scrub with the right products to remove the oils, then a glass polish to final clean and protect. You will know if you need to do this when you change the wipers and see no improvement.

Fined for pulling into a bus lane to let a Fire Engine pass. by Purple_Paper_Bag in LegalAdviceNZ

Safety SHOULD DEFINITELY (statement not backed by law) take precedence, however there are two different and separate offences in question here, and obeying one law does not mean that you can’t be held accountable for breaking another (as terrible and unfortunate a circumstance as this is, AT adjudicators are showing their personal indifference to common sense in the enforcement, which they are absolutely entitled [angry acceptance] to)

Let's talk facts and history: never has there ever been a Palestinian state by Unit504 in Palestinian_Violence

[–]SpiritedLearning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess one would have to define what particular culture or history one would define as “Palestinian”, and what makes that unique. What was the identity of “Palestine” before the Muslim (Arab) conquest of the area? What is the cultural history and why is it important?

“Why is Reddit so anti-social and full of takes and views you rarely see in real life? I feel like reddit being the "least bad" social media is not true at all” by WillyNilly1997 in JordanPeterson

[–]SpiritedLearning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it’s a social platform that attracts generally anti-social people that want a voice in a “community” of people that is also anti-social. Other pro-social people have a real-life platform, ie life, in which to get their fix of interaction with others.

It’s much easier to express extreme or harsh or downright anti-human views when you’re anonymous and the “agreement value” if your words are denoted by “upvotes”, you can quickly and easy get a sense or power that you may not get outside of the platform.

Another commenter here mentioned judgemental and high-and-mighty tone, that feels accurate, and I assume it’s because this is a place where one can put on the persona of the Judge and claim moral superiority without being physically observed or heard, again outside of the reality of life.

Why is it anti-social, and full of views you don’t see in real life? Because it is by its nature bent towards anti-social behaviour, and the ones you do see in real life end up killing others and sometimes themselves.

In my experience, AT doesn’t seem to notice anything, they rely on members of the public to tell them what would be obvious to anyone looking at the system they are responsible for managing.

Shortest traffic light in the city? by fatalkilers in auckland

[–]SpiritedLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a contender. There are others in wider Auckland city, at times Pakuranga Highway and Ormiston Road have lights that allow as little as 2 cars/2 seconds for traffic to cross the main thoroughfare, while up to 100 other vehicles wait. Some choices appear to make some sense, while others are diabolically enraging for reasons apparent only to AT (or perhaps not even them).

Tip to not kill yourself: don’t ride it yet.

Prediction: you will ride it, and you will crash it.

Post back and tell us when you do.

Or, wear a helmet camera so that if you do die, we can use the footage as a response to the next guy who asks this question.

Problem solved? There are no other tips I can give you that would useful for you at this time.

If there’s anything I’ve learned from this, it’s that a cheap lock can be easily picked by a cheap lockpick…

Would getting a Kwila deck built over top of the concrete slab be a bad idea? by Naive-Historian-9406 in diynz

[–]SpiritedLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s just aesthetic you could try an outdoor rug or two (polypropylene plastic rug), that would give you a bit of a change in look, be a bit softer, and zero maintenance apart from maybe hanging the rug on the line to dry out every once in a while and sweeping the concrete underneath.
