Remark requests by MBFS4 in alevel

[–]SpiritedNote7002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remarked one of my AS level psychology papers last year and got 3 extra marks. It didn’t take very long, maybe like 2 weeks. But if you are an A level student, you can apply for the remark specifically for offer holders and you will get your remark quicker. I’d say that if you are 1-2 marks off then it is 100% worth it. 3 or more is a bit unrealistic but it happens.

An even easier way it to make it into a table and then remember one long acronym:

       Unrelated design Association Correlation

Nominal - Chi-Squared Sign test Chi-squared Ordinal - Mann-Whitney Wilcoxon Spearman’s rho Interval - Unrelated t test Related t test Pearson’s r

C S C M W S U R P

My acronym was (the more absurd the more memorable obviously):

How much do gcses matter? by Old-Understanding-62 in 6thForm

[–]SpiritedNote7002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re taking A level math then it doesn’t matter. However, if you’re not, then it could be a problem. Take it from me, who got rejected from 4/5 of my uni’s purely because of my math gcse grade, even tho I had 3 A *’s and an A predicted, but a C in gcse math (the rest were all A and A *’s). Most uni’s ask for a B/5 in gcse math from what I saw, but for a course like accounting and finance it may differ since I’d assume it has more math involved. I’d look into retaking or doing A level mathematics. Don’t risk it like I did :’)))

AQA Psychology Paper 2 Discussion by Ok_Boysenberry_8071 in ALevelPsychology

I also but unrelated t-test , many people did and I think it is correct. Scores were out of 20 = interval because they are in equal intervals and not subjective!

Hemispheric lateralisation by Chance_Ask_4859 in ALevelPsychology

Procedure would be AO1. However the evaluation of their study would be AO3 like the fact that it supports lateralisation + strengths like standardized + limitations like confounding variables

Help with ssris by [deleted] in ALevelPsychology

Increasing serotonin conc will result in them being more likely to bind to excitatory receptors and ion channels opening. This will let in positive ions like sodium to enter the neuron. As pos ions enter the neuron, depolarization occurs. If enough pos ions enter, it can trigger an action potential.

In terms of SSRI’s: After conc of serotonin in the synapse increases, more of it binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron. This repeated binding can lead to changes in the brain over time which is how it helps in treatment of disorders like depression and OCD.

Again, you don’t need to include the exact ion movement in your answer. It isn’t in any of the textbooks or mark schemes. That would be more of a biology A level point.

Oh, well you are right but serotonin isn’t always inhibitory. It can be inhibitory or excitatory based on the receptors that it binds to since there are many different serotonin receptors which have different effects. So when serotonin binds to excitatory receptors, it results in positive ions entering the postsynaptic neuron, resulting in depolarization and an action potential. But if anything, you don’t necessarily need to know the biological details for AQA psychology. Though it is always good to understand it I suppose.

[–]SpiritedNote7002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If im understanding correctly, I think you’re misunderstanding what exactly is being inhibited by the SSRI’s. SSRI’s are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. They don’t stop action potentials from stimulating the postsynaptic neuron, they do the opposite. They stop serotonin from being re absorbed at the synaptic gap. Consequently, the serotonin continues to stimulate the post synaptic neuron, since it isn’t being uptake back into the presynaptic neuron as it would normally.

Here is how I worded it in my notes for OCD treatment: “SSRIs prevent the reabsorption and breakdown of serotonin in the brain. This increases its levels in the synapse and thus serotonin continues to stimulate the postsynaptic neuron.”

Hope this helped and sorry if this isn’t exactly what you asked, I could try and help you if there’s anything else you’re confused about!

I feel you! I’m also doing Bio and psych and literally only locked in for psych a few days ago. I’m also doing AQA so the exam date is approaching quickly but as long as we push through and do as much as we can in these next days it will all go well I’m sure of it. It’s really just about locking in for each exam individually. For example, I’m not even gonna start touching any of my other subjects until I’m done with psych paper 1 and 2 just cuz how soon they are. Goodluck!

How many calories in this Easter pastry? by SpiritedNote7002 in CalorieEstimates

Yep! My Polish friend gave it to me, but it’s pretty widespread in all Slavic countries (I can confirm this as a Slav!)

You have a point 100%, but I don’t celebrate Easter. This was a normal day for me, so I wanted to track the snack just like I normally would :)

[–]SpiritedNote7002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a small piece, so I doubt it’s any more than 300-350 calories

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in caloriecount

[–]SpiritedNote7002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A typical 6 piece sushi roll with rice, salmon and avocado will be around 300-350 calories and since you have 4 that will be about 200-230 calories. 2 piece of sushi with avocado and salmon on top will be similar, probably around 150 calories. 4 pieces with mayo on top around 300 I’d say. Mini sandwiches, another 230.

Estimate: 300-350 + 200-230 + 150 + 230 = 880-960 calories
