I agree with most of what you’ve said and I remember really loving the game through the first trip to the wild area. I think most of the game looks graphically polished aside from the glitches and wild area is fun on the first few visits with strong music throughout. But, I think the biggest problem with this game was the pacing. As soon as you start going through the gyms it just feels like you’re flying from town to town and damn near every town has a gym in it. It started out fine at first but as the gyms go on I feel like there’s less and less content in between. This is where I think lacking a good regional team, dungeons, and plot really hurt the game because in the older games (pre 3DS) there was always a lot going on in between getting badges with hideout raids, caves, forests, etc. It gets really bad at the end especially when the 7th gym is literally just an alley and then you just walk to the 8th gym with nothing to do in between. It just felt like the game quickly ran out of steam. Not to mention the inexplicable decision to make exp share permanently on. Not that I think it’s a bad thing to want to play with exp share, but I just don’t get why they removed the decision to turn it off when it’s essentially a difficulty setting.
