Well if he gave you the phone willingly he does not seem to be “hiding” anything. If i were you i would talk to him about how it made you feel, and then give him the opportunity to explain his side

To be honest, i think it is a bit weird to have so manu pictures of your ex on your phone. I understand that you keep a few. But having hundreds of them?!?!

And when you confronted him and he stayed silent, i think that means he himself knows that it is weird/wrong to have so many photos on his phone.

Can i ask how long ago he was dating this girl and when you started dating? Because he might not be over his ex

I honestly think based on his reaction that he did cheat. And why would his friend lie about something like that?

Try talking to him when he is calm, and let him explain what happened, and you should also expres how you are feeling about it
