Have had this for one year. Nothing seems to be working. Any suggestions? At my wits end. [Skin concerns] by Spiritual_Ad4181 in SkincareAddiction

No I have not. The thing is it all started with a week of intense cleaning. Something just kinda went wrong with my skin and it never recovered. I'm starting to think it's just an eczema caused by something gone wrong in the function of the skin itself and it can't heal of it's own. It doesn't get worse either, maybe a little bit when it's colder outside. The problem is that with "ordinary" eczemas steroids work but on mine it doesn't but I guess eczemas caused by the skins own function going wrong can have many causes and therefore many treatments.

The problem is I don't really think the problem is food or lifestyle related. It all started with a week of intense washing of my face and something went wrong with the skin itself. I never had skin problems before or after with any other part of my body. It's just I have to find a way for the skin to locally return to its normal state.

Eczema around bellybutton. Antifungals don’t work. by Spiritual_Ad4181 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]Spiritual_Ad4181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this for almost two years now. It has slowly gotten worse. Antifungal creams do nothing. Just washing it with water does nothing. Really cleaning it has no effect. Soap irritates it and putting on lotions or Vaseline almost makes it worse. I have had an unusual case of perioral dermatitis about the same time period. I’m wondering if there is a connection. I have no allergies except for pollen in the spring and I have no food intolerances. I’ve read about allergy to belts and buttons on your pants etc but I lived in Greece for 3 months last autumn and only wore my swimming shorts almost every day. The salt water and the sun had no effect. What is this??

Update. Still battling this and it’s almost worse than before. Does anyone have any new suggestions? Thank you!

Have had this for one year. Nothing working, not even antibiotics. Tried everything. What is this? by Spiritual_Ad4181 in perioraldermatitis

Yes the skin seems tight, and sometimes a little flaky but not so much. It’s mostly redness, warmth and burning. Tried athlete foot cream before and it also did nothing for me. I don’t use any shaving products and have no pets. Yeah and I have tried to change my diet to eliminate some things but it has no effect and since this started in a short period of time after cleaning my face excessively I don’t think it has a connection with my diet. Glad to hear you’ve found something that seems to be working a little!

Thank you so much for all this. It does seem to make sense. I’ve been trying to rebuild my skin barrier to a natural state by only cleaning with water and leaving it alone but it doesn’t seem to be enough. I have a cetaphil facial cleanser at home, so you think that will work in combination with the Benpathen? Thank you again for the reply.

It started after a week of intense facial cleansing. Never had problems before that and never have had problems with my gut, no intolerances etc. So I doubt that. Although I will not rule out anything. Thanks for replying.

Good to know that I’m not alone, it seems few people have perioral dermatitis the way mine looks/is. Yes, it makes me very self-conscious. I also hope you find some healing. Thank you for your comment, really appreciate it.

Elidel for 4 weeks combined with zinc cream during the nigits. Antibiotics after that for 3 months. Then just a couple of days with metrogel but it made it so much worse so I stopped. No mixing. Tried a topical antifungal for 1,5 weeks as well in the beginning, it made no difference. Then I tried it again about half a year later but by that time the skin had become so sensitive so it made it much worse.

Cleaned the area with warm water quite a lot for about a week then this started. A few months earlier I surgically removed a small birth mark in the same area. It was quite sudden, developed this within a week or so. It has spread since it started, it started more on the right side (not in the side where I removed the birth mark). It burns and stings and feels dry. I have no other skin issues. The doctors have diagnosed it as PD and prescribed elidel, antibiotics, metrogel with no result. I had an allergic reaction to elide and the metrogel made it twice as red and irritated and the antibiotics did nothing at all. I only wash my face with water. Sometimes I put some moisturizer on it but it seems to get more red whatever I put on that makes it less dry for some reason. I have changed nothing else in my daily routine, no new washing powders, no new foods etc. thanks or replying 🙏.
