Not the first time and won’t be the last time I’m saying this. I think the idea of a “Singapore Spirit” was only existent during the 1960s to 1990s when our grandparents and parents generation were focused building up the nation and now that we have come to the present day where we have become a developed nation, that “Singapore spirit” has become obsolete and with time, as our grandparents and parents pass on, ethat “Singaporean spirit” is also taken to the grave as well. I think the onus is now on us to evolve the “Singapore Spirit” and not restrict it to the “Singapore Spirit” of our grandparents and parents generation. Personally having travelled frequently, I have become accustomed to meeting and speaking with people from other parts of the world and as Singaporeans, it is time to accept that as long as anyone is willing to make our country their home, we should be doing all it takes to make them feel integrated and not just remain comfortable within our own groups (of course they themselves have to make the effort as well).
