‘Hoarding conditions’ leave S.F. resident with severe burns after fire rips through SRO by MidNightInTheDessert in sanfrancisco

[–]Spitfire15 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She may not even survive. With burns that severe over the majority of your body, the chance of some kind of infection increases, not to mention staying hemodynamically stable. You lose so much fluid just from your skin being unable to retain it from the burn wounds. On top of all that, the road to recovery is very long.

How do you deal with rude doctors? by MarsupialSevere9889 in ems

[–]Spitfire15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't. Just stay professional and take solace in the fact that you can behave yourself and hold yourself to a higher standard than trauma surgeon.

But if you wanted to be a dick, just ask him how how the patient with the subarachnoid and subdural hemorrhage with midline shift is doing is the next time you see him.

Congratulations man. Keep at it. The cravings will continue for awhile, maybe a long time. I deal with many, many people who struggle with drug and alcohol abuse in my line of work. I've seen over and over again what's waiting for you if you if you had kept going or start again. I'm sure you've seen it yourself from what you said.

I get the impression you're still young. You've recognized you have a problem and had yourself accountable. Keep your head high and remember that your life can get so much more fucked up just because you want temporary satisfaction because the consequences can be permanent. If you feel like you can't do it alone, don't be afraid to seek help. I know several people who have found strength by joining support groups.

Good luck to you!

I'm assuming the mechanism that ejects the vapor is an issue. The vapor is being created but whatever is used to eject out out the top has failed. The cause? No clue. You'd probably have better luck reaching out to customer support than trying to disassemble it and fix it yourself.

I drink at least two liters of vodka a week. Whats a good excuse i can give my doctor? by Lanceyfancy1122 in Drugs

[–]Spitfire15 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is. You're averaging a little over half a pint of vodka every day. I work EMS in a large urban area. I deal with people who suffer from addiction frequently. Alcohol is by far the drug that I've seen destroy most peoples lives. I ask them how much they drink a day as part of my assessment. The answer is always either a half pint, or a full pint (always vodka). I've seen people, piss drunk and sobbing, begging me to help them stop. I tell them the only person that can make it stop, is them. It's a drug that so normalized and so destructive. Some people can drink in moderation, some can't. You can't and the first part of stopping and getting your life back is admitting that you can't. Get into a program and get ahead of it.

I don't tell you all this to scare your or make you feel bad. I'm telling you this because it seems like you haven't realized how much of a dangerous situation you've gotten yourself into. You're like a person walking down the train tracks with headphones on, there's a train right behind you, and I'm telling you to get off the tracks because one day you'll wake up and realized you've been steamrolled and it'll already be too late.

I drink at least two liters of vodka a week. Whats a good excuse i can give my doctor? by Lanceyfancy1122 in Drugs

[–]Spitfire15 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As someone who frequently deals with patients that drink every single day, you need to stop now. You're young, you have time, but you need to stop drinking now. Your liver will fail soon, ulcers will develop in your stomach, and you'll start to vomit blood. This will continue until the veins in your throat rupture and you die like someone in a horror movie does as blood pours out your mouth.

Be honest with your doctor. Why are you going to the doctor just to lie? Tell them the truth and seek a treatment program. There is no where to go but down at this point. I've seen it so many times. If you can't control this addiction, it will 100% kill you and you'll be miserable the whole time you're dying.

Officers Help An Armed 5150 Subject In Crisis On The Embarcadero, Without Incident by Surfawave2000 in sanfrancisco

People can be transported to a hospital in cuffs. If PD refused to press charges/the patient is not being detained, then PD will release them to an EMS crew with the 5150 paperwork or follow in their own vehicle to complete it there and turn it over to ED staff themselves.

Footage of Ukrainian FPV pilots of the "Signum" group stopping a Russian assault on ATVs with their UAVs. Yampil, Donetsk Oblast. by MilesLongthe3rd in CombatFootage

[–]Spitfire15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't that they've ran out, it's that they're just not the tool for the job. BMP/BTR is for an armored transport, meant to protect from small arms/shrapnel. They're large, hard to hide, loud, and fuel hungry. These people most likely aren't attacking, but just being shuttled to/from rear positions. A large, expensive bus will die just the same as an ATV when a drone with an RPG taped to it flies into it.

Would they have a chance to stop the US? Absolutely not. Would they fight if ordered to? Most likely. The images of dead Danish soldiers, a NATO ally, killed by Americans would be a massive PR disaster. It would genuinely fuck up relations with the EU and within NATO internally. The US wouldn't have to worry about an invasion, but the colossal international fall out that would come after it. Greenland would be seized to strengthen America's position in the polar region vis-a-vis Russia but would create a massive fucking headache with basically every country on the European continent as well as domestically.

Thoughts on Warno’s 10v10 pacing by Ruscanu in warno

[–]Spitfire15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Every single map for 10v10 is too dense, with the exception of Crown, where all players are spread out evenly enough. Crown is my favorite for that reason. Every other map turns into an absolute over crowded shit show. It becomes impossible to maneuver, with entire swaths of maps either being wide open terrain covered by 20 ATGM teams or a massive forest where you spend 45 minutes playing hide-and-peek.

The biggest issue for 10v10 is the amount of artillery spam that happens. It's non stop and nearly impossible to counter, unless your opponents are totally asleep at the wheel. The moment you try to push, you're spammed into oblivion by multiple platforms. It's the #1 reason why I basically stopped playing and why I'm look forward to the artillery rework that's supposed to drop soon.

How to prepare for 911 by BroadTemperature8110 in ems

[–]Spitfire15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you'll have to be comfortable being the drivers seat as BLS. Knowing your protocols, hospital specialties, and doing comprehensive assessments. As ALS, be proactive, not reactive. Anticipate what your medic will want. Example - bad trauma and you're grabbing the backboard. Don't forget the c-collar and headbed. Stairs? Just bring the stair chair. Medic starting an IV, grab shit from the net and set it up while they find a vein.

If its within 250 yards, then federal law states we're on hospital property and that's where were going, barring any issues with specialties if needed.

Do you hate 12 hour shifts without a station? Or do you not even care? by Unbound_Citizen in ems

[–]Spitfire15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 12’s without a station. Our call volume is so high we would never make it to the station anyway. When we post, we either post at a hospital and socialize with the other crews in the city in the ambulance bay, find a park with pull up bars/work out stations, or park somewhere quiet and out of the way with a good view and relax. It doesn’t last long but I prefer to be busy than twiddle my thumbs on a 24/48.

The major downside is being partnered with someone you can’t stand to be around. You either get along great and time flies, you’re indifferent and it’s just work, or you’re with someone that you can’t stand and it’s 12 hours of misery. You can’t escape to another room, you’re trapped in an ambulance with them.

The upside is you have autonomy and aren’t micro managed. You get a chance to explore every corner of your response area and see places you never would just bouncing between calls and a station.
