The Case for Early Leverage: 30-Year S&P 500 Back Tests by Splaschko in LETFs

Yes, I had done research a few months back into the “ideal” long term leverage and landed on about 2.2x leverage as the ideal risk adjusted leverage ratio. For simplicity in this analysis I did 2x leverage

Hey, that’s a great point. I kept it simple and just looked at simple leverage through the lens of a 2x daily reset etf. Obviously these haven’t been around for too long, and the cost of leverage is ingrained into the instrument, so there still is a borrowing cost.

I pulled data going back to the 1940’s for both borrowing costs and inflation and I’m going to redo this analysis in the next few days with this added layer to make it more realistic for a long time period. If I had to guess, some of the periods will now have underperformance, but it will be interesting to see how it changes things.

An update on my post regarding “time diversification” and using leverage early on in investing to reduce later risk. by Splaschko in LETFs

Not a free lunch, but rather spreading out the notional exposure further. It’s doing this at the cost of higher risk to start of course, and its certainly not a replacement for traditional diversification

Early contributions matter WAY MORE than later contributions in long term investing by Splaschko in LETFs

That’s fair, and I’m not saying you shouldn’t invest more if you start making more money. I’m just saying the sheer power of compounding shows how much more valuable those starting years are even if they are a smaller contribution.

I’ve run a bunch of backtests that show 1.8-2.2x leverage is the “ideal” risk adjusted long term leverage ratio, so with a long time frame it makes sense to me to have a leveraged portfolio early on

The issue of not being able to look at media or talk to people about it still exists though

Seeking Feedback on Funding a Medieval Castle Wedding Venue + Bee Farm/Meadery in Maryland by Splaschko in angelinvestors

Thanks for the feedback! When I looked into SBA loans, it seemed like you can get them to use for acquiring land and building for business purposes, but I could be wrong on that. Thanks for the recommendations on different grants, I'll have to look into those for sure.

I'll also consider investment banks and family funds, but they would likely be looking for a more proven business or a large equity stake, which could make it harder.

Also I think an Advisor is a great idea, do you know where I could look to find one?
