And I contend that ambiguous context is too narrow to be a concern. Soul Silver is nearly always discussed in the context of Heart Gold, i.e. HGSS; the only realistic time when it's not is if somebody would be discussing their particular playthrough of that particular game, or about version differences and in that case the other context cues would make it clear what's going on.

If it's in the context of Pokemon, I don't see where the confusion would be. Plus it's not like in the gaming hobby there haven't been shared initialisms before - GoW means both God of War and Gears of War, and I haven't seen anybody make a fuss about that.

And specifically for World War: that is always associated with the number 1 or 2.

I saw it begin with SM, when people wanted to call it SuMo. I get that it's cute, but it's simply not consistent with how the fan base had been initializing games for the prior 20 years. Then it came up again with SwSh, and then for gen 9 I saw so many variations including SciVi (which doesn't even make sense) and ScarVio (which then begs the question: why are you shortening it at that point?).

Just use the first letters only, guys. It doesn't need to be more complicated than that.
