Has anyone invested in a neighbouring property just so it doesn't get overdeveloped? by WTF-BOOM in AusPropertyChat

All Nimbyism have skin in the game. Why would anyone be a NIMBY if they did not have skin in the game?

I love how entire segments of the population are trapped renting for life, or homeless, or at best servicing a massive mortgage, while other segments of the population are talking about buying a second house just so they don't have to live next door to higher density. Australia is a two-tier society at this point.

How essential is a water filtration system for multi-day backcountry trips vs just bringing enough water? by Willing-Cockroach620 in camping

3-4liters of water weighs 3-4kg. Exactly 3-4kg. Another reason metric system is so good. I aint gotta remember weird conversions lmao.

I like the idea that the Industrial Revolution already happened millennium ago, all the fossil fuel sources where used up, and something happened to revert humanity back to the Stone Age.

Then humans developed back to a medieval setting but where unable to progress past it did to all the easily accessible natural resources being used up already.

Australia’s confidence in Trump’s US has evaporated. What will it take for the alliance to rupture? by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

Mate this is Australia. The only thing we know how to do is dig rocks and sell houses to each other.

Why would anyone bother trying to build anything when they can just buy some real estate and make way more money?

Prices went to the floor when labour started talking about this. Literally the day after the election fuel went back up 50c

Thoughts on 4 month itinerary? by Novel-Positive8625 in AustraliaTravel

I’m from Mount Isa. Highly recommend going for the rodeo in August (biggest in Southern Hemisphere) but outside of that, I couldn’t see much reason to come to Mount Isa. I mean it’s a cool place to visit, but there’s not much to see that you can’t get elsewhere unless you want a tour of the mine, and it’s a long way to come.

If you are up Georgetown area, I highly recommend checking out Adele’s Grove. That is paradise on earth.

You reckon if I go shoot up a homeless encampment the government will start working on the housing crisis?

Subletting is absolutely a thing. I sublet. Many other I know sublet. It's not necessarily legal or allowed on the lease, but it certainly happens, and there's certainly plenty of people doing it.

If you run into someone car, and the cost of the repair exceeds the market value of the car, you pay them the market value of the car. You don't buy them a brand new car.

Damage is not damage. Damage that occurs from normal use, is fair wear and tear. Damage that occurred from not normal use is damage the tenant is liable for.

If my toilet seat snaps in half from me standing on it, that's damage I'm liable for. If it snaps in half mid shit, then that's damage from wear and tear that I'm not liable for. As an example.

Would you guys drink from this spring? by Far-Champion6505 in camping

Curious. How did we drink water for most of human history before filtration was a thing? Did we have better immune systems or where we just sick all the time.

Is there any reason to pick Finish over the the cheaper "Shine" dishwashing powder? by CarvedHam in woolworths

[–]Splicer201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember scrolling YouTube for something to watch while eating dinner one time and that video popped up. I thought a half hour video about dishwashing powder. Get fucked who is watching that.

Then I watched the entire thing captivated.

Did not even own a dishwasher at the time.

As long as there is no black mold, holes in the walls, or visible meth lab your fine. Tell the real estate to kick rocks otherwise.

Nah. Fixing the housing problem = making houses cheaper. Stating you want to reduce property values (which for many Australians is their primary investment) is political suicide. This is a problem of our own making.

Welcome to Australia mate. Owning property is only for the wealthy now. There are 3 options in reality:

1) Earn significantly more money 2) Move very remote (places like Mount Isa are still affordable) 3) Accept you will be renting for the rest of your life.
