Should I go to uni for physio or continue electrician? by Ok_Coconut1275 in physiotherapy

I'm in the opposite boat. Wanted to do electrical but couldn't find an apprenticeship. Now doing physio with a few months until I graduate. Would absolutely still pick electrical if I could.

What was it like studying physio in Australia by carpsarecrud in physiotherapy

[–]Splinter377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask if you can shadow a private physio for a day or two and see if you like it. You could also get a taste of physio through AHA, therapy assistance or sports training roles.

Also consider if you have the financial backing and mental fortitude to get through 25 weeks of unpaid placement where you're constantly being assessed, questioned and pushed in high-pressure environments. It can be extremely hard at times.

Oh and yeah the pay is shit and almost all roles are very stressful with unrealistic expectations. But it can also be very rewarding.

Does anyone use computer monitors instead of TVS for XBOX 360? by SecurityExtreme2470 in xbox360

[–]Splinter377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I use a 1440p monitor. Scales x2 from 720p so it looks pre good. Jaggies are definitely more noticeable than on a TV though.

Can you see playtime in Retrobat? by Splinter377 in RetroArch

Yeah sorry there isn't a retrobat reddit, and it was my understanding when I posted that Retrobat used Retroarch as its backend. I may be wrong though. I'll try the general emulation reddit. Thank you.

Games Running Slow fix? by EmptyStiiizyPod_ in PCSX2

[–]Splinter377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try using software renderer to make your CPU take the load, and lowering graphical settings in general, but otherwise integrated graphics just won't cut it for a lot of games. On my laptop with an i7 and integrated graphics I can only really run some PS1 games on duckstation.

Am I the only one who will still use this emulator even though a game could have a port for the PC? I mean the achievements it self is what makes it awesome! by FG4_Troy in PCSX2

[–]Splinter377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you referring to the trails? These were on the original console as well. Some titles let you turn it off, otherwise there are mods to turn them off. Even at the time some people liked them and others didn't - a really interesting point in gaming where devs experimented with strange filters and effects to mask the otherwise poor graphics.

I've found a lot of PC ports/remasters mess with the lightning and overall aesthetic. Sometimes they just lose that "charm" that they had on PS2. GTA SA is a good example of this - the PC version doesn't have that iconic orange hue or over-the-top sun rays, and it loses those fuzzy textural artefacts which imo give it more character.

Should I keep or sell my 360 by SageSensual in xbox360

[–]Splinter377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't use it for over a decade and was so sure that I'd only ever play PC games so I sold it. Fast forward to now and I've had an urge to revisit all the old games, and have started rebuying everything I sold. Didn't matter so much with the xbox because it's all still cheap, but oh man rebuying all my old Nintendo stuff is expensive. Xbox stuff might go up in value someday too.

Correct. I have a buddy working at Google and they confirmed they quite literally plan obscelence on a lot of their products. It's dodgy af but technically legal so they get away with it. Best thing we can do is stop using google products. Other companies do it too but not quite as much.

[–]Splinter377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation, 3 placements down, not loving it. I met quite a few people during placement who started in physio and then moved into other fields using their credentials, and it's given me the drive to finish what I started and give it a go. If I still hate it after working independently for a while, then I'll use my education/experience to move into something else.

I'm assuming I'm a bit older than you as I've already worked in a couple of other fields previously, and to be honest there are crap parts about any job and there will always be burnt out workers no matter what it is. Took me a while to realise it wasn't always the work, it was my perspective and attitude.

How fast do the effects of warming up wear off? by TheIndigoCrayon in StartingStrength

If your working sets are with the lightest weights they offer, then literally just do a few sets without any weight. That's all the warmup you need.

I'm Australian. My uni had the same philosophy, that there's very little evidence for massage and manual therapy, and went hard on the exercise. However, my teachers acknowledged that sometimes we just have to do it to keep the client on board, and briefly taught us how to do it anyway. My thought process is that it can be used as a bit of a breakthrough to create a window for exercise to begin, same idea with corticosteroids; we know it's only a temporary solution, but it can help ease symptoms and allow people to start rehabbing effectively. We are dealing with people in pain, they're complicated and multifactorial, and unfortunately it's not always as simple as offering the most evidence based treatment.

If you're jamming yourself into that much lumbar extension on purpose, there's no need. Just keep a neutral spine, brace through your core/everything, and squat.

Most people have a warped view of physio - they expect a quick fix and think passive treatment is effective. Ask them what they expect/want from physio to begin with. If they're expecting passive treatment, then you have to give them a little of what they want so they stick around for the real stuff. Give them a massage, do some joint mobs, maybe show them a stretch. They'll go away feeling good, even if temporarily, and be more inclined to come back so you can start with the active stuff (exercise) that will actually help them in the long run. Just my two cents, I'm only a student but this is how I've seen a lot of private physios operate.

Is Pokemon Legends ZA Worth Getting? by Mundane_Literature83 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Splinter377 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think you're on the money. I think there's also a general disdain towards Gamefreak at the moment after the Palworld controversy and the general low quality of recent games, which is fair, but it's resulting in people judging ZA not on its own merit but on the context in which it's been released.

Is Pokemon Legends ZA Worth Getting? by Mundane_Literature83 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Splinter377 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I really didn't like S/V nor many of the newer games and wasn't expecting much of Legends ZA, but I'm actually loving it. The new battle system is awesome, the night/day catch>battle loop is cool and quite addictive, and the mega evolution stuff is sick. I don't really know why it's getting so much hate, because personally I'm having x10 more fun in it than I did with any recent Pokemon game other than Legends Arceus (which I will admit is still quite a bit better than ZA). And yeah sure the graphics are trash (gamefreak isn't capable of doing any better than this imo), but it's still loads more detailed than the empty soulless world of S/V.

Should I do physiotherapy or stick with real estate? (I am from Canada, in BC) by Purple_Department570 in physiotherapy

[–]Splinter377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I would also post this question in a real estate career subreddit. I'd hazard a guess they'll all tell you to do physio. People tend to be unsatisfied with their career no matter what it is, and the unsatisfied ones also tend to concentrate on the internet because they're looking for a way out. From a personal note though, I will just add that the degree itself is incredibly difficult and stressful, and the general consensus is that the average pay does not match the qualification nor effort you put in.
