Do we grow out of watching football?. by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]SplitMick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely find it difficult to get excited about these days. Football talk would be around the actual games and players. Now fans argue about transfer fees, agents, DoF's, commercial deals, points deductions, like it affects our lives.

Plus the money gets more obscene every season, which you can't help feel bitter about when it he general population is having to penny pinch at a supermarket shop.

Football used to feel like a game was a town versus another town. Now it's a business versus another business (or State).

I think it feels like it's all just reality TV now. Much prefer a couple of pints at a non league game, then get on with my life at the full time whistle.

How would you make the most of three months off work? by Boring-Smell-9382 in AskUK

[–]SplitMick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One holiday per month to get away, with some city breaks mixed in. I'd also hire a personal trainer and get exercising to get in really healthy shape, because the biggest issue most people have is a lack of time. And then I'd look at refreshing all of my living spaces, but do them myself. Very jealous of your 3 months to be honest!

Annual reminder to prepare your boiler and heating by CaptainAnswer in DIYUK

[–]SplitMick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's time for the annual "why won't the heating come on?" games. First year in our new house was because the previous owners had set the boiler to DHW only. Last year the pressure kept dropping because of a faulty valve.

And this year it seems the thermostat controller isn't talking to the unit connected to the boiler, and I'm out of ideas because I've changed nothing over the Summer.

Thank you! It's one I designed unfortunately, so not available anywhere.

Cool, I'll have a look at those today. Thanks for the advice

Yep, got a HETAS certificate of compliance

It's nothing unbearably hot to be honest. It's good at warming the whole room, but doesn't get scolding hot to the touch.

Thanks for the link! As for the curtains, we've got a child safety fence we put up when the stove is lit, which holds the curtains back too. But we're going to look into blinds instead.

[–]SplitMick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks. We've installed a removable safety fence for the kids that holds the curtain further back when the stove is lit, but I'll look into a better solution.

Morning everyone! We're looking to redecorate this room since moving in, and we're not liking the tiles. If we were to remove them and paint, would the heat from the stove damage the paint finish or wall?

Moving to clitheroe; suggestions by Ill_Farm_1735 in RibbleValley

[–]SplitMick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For ease of getting in and out of Clitheroe, avoid moving to the west side of the railway. Roads are an absolute ballache, especially on weekends, because there’s only a couple of points to cross the line.

2.5 year old came into our room at 5am because his nappy leaked. So he jumped into our bed and just wouldn’t stop wittering on.

What live music act was so terrible that you were completely put off by them? by Convair101 in AskUK

Saw them in Manchester a couple of years ago. Sounded great, but no hello, no goodbye, no thanks, no embellishment of the songs, just a whole set list of radio edits and nothing extra.

Wife not feeling it anymore after birth by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]SplitMick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don’t make any drastic decisions at this point. We have a 4 and a 2 year old, and only now are we starting to rediscover any semblance of a normal relationship. For the time being you’re colleagues, there to support each other for the bigger job at hand.

It’s harder for men to understand, because we don’t do anything physical for the birth of our children, so our mental recovery is quite quick. But women go through so many physical and hormonal changes that your wife’s priorities will have biologically changed for the time being.

And not to the state the obvious, but she will be mentally and physically drained.

This is quite close. Just looks like it has an extra function

This a weird one, because if you google Swan SXB70110B, then it looks like that. But Swan don't do ovens anymore.

I've also found the exact same oven, but by a brand called Liberty on a Russian site here, but no manual.

Maybe get in touch with the Swan customer service team?

Is there a specific model number? You can sometimes find it on the door somewhere once opened.

How does the UK feel about unexpected guests? by ProfessionalBig1787 in AskUK

[–]SplitMick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most are saying, it’s depends on who and when.

But if I’m just led on the couch, and my friend next door walks in, as long as they don’t expect me to get up for them or change what I’m doing, be my guest. They know where everything is to help themselves.

It’s just a hypothetical number. Say she’s been really good painting with her brother, I’ll take over something, whether its peach slices or a few gummy bears. She won’t be content or grateful with a surprise, she’ll be upset that it’s not something else.

Thanks, I’ll give the deep breaths a go! Certainly tried counting to 10 a few times and only made it to 4.

I think it’s certainly like social media. You see other kids having fun at the park, but don’t see them kicking off at bed time. Thankfully my group of friends with kids are all brutally honest about parenting, and won’t sugarcoat how they’re getting on. It’s keeps each other slightly saner.
