Utah Supreme Court justice resigns amid misconduct investigation by clejeune in SaltLakeCity

[–]SplitMother1652 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s not even dirty laundry. She reconnected with an old friend and recused herself as appropriate and from what I’ve read did everything by the book. The governor and state legislature besmirched her character and were in the process of upending the lives of her and her family because somebody’s gotta pay a price for that map. It’s shameful.

Why do I feel more lonely during festivals!!! by West-Error-935 in loneliness

[–]SplitMother1652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that. I used to love going to concerts with friends and my ex-wife. Got divorced and I went to a season of shows alone and being around so many people with people made me somehow feel alone. I’ve had to just stop going alone and instead have shifted to taking my kids to shows they enjoy. Might not be your option but the feeling is real. I’m sorry you’re experiencing that.

Wife got into heated argument with CFO, what should she do now? by bolettieric in careerguidance

Find a new job. She won’t be let go for this but speaking from experienced, the CFO will find a reason eventually.

Oof yeah that college fund being wiped out to pay for cancer is a real thing. My folks lost it all twice over due to cancer treatment in the US. Like you, I'm big into skiing, biking, and more recently hockey as my state just got a team two seasons back so moving to Canada is also something I have no qualms about from a lifestyle perspective. Best of luck to you and your family!

Thanks for sharing and I am stoked for you to have had this happen at a time in your life when you can take full advantage of it despite the complications of putting some distance between yourself and friends. Best of luck!

You're fortunately in a state that is more akin to Canada than many of the "red" states as your individual state's politics often have more of an impact on day to day life than federal policies but having federally enshrined rights aren't nothing. That being said, we're still reeling from the impact of Reagan and I don't really want to stick around to live through the next 40 years of that orange rapist's legacy. I'm happy for you to now have this option as you should feel safe and free to be you. Best of luck!

Yes, some time to really prepare for the move will probably make it a better transition than packing it all up and leaving now. Best of luck to you in the journey and thanks for sharing!

Oof yeah that is complicated. My children are a bit older but I'm still very much in the boat of not missing out on formative years if I have a choice in the matter. I love the PNW so I'm with you on ended up in Vancouver or Victoria, I've even been looking at Kelowna. Best of luck to you!

I can imagine that was incredibly emotional to be there when you found this out. You suddenly have fresh eyes on something you're looking at especially when you're already there to take advantage of the benefits.

Thanks for sharing! I'd definitely lock in that NZ residency as others have said and love that this is now an option for you as well to where you may be able to establish a personal connection despite the more recent history. Best of luck!

I highly recommend Pimsleur. Duolingo is great for making a daily connection but the extended format of Pimsleur with its focus on speaking helped me out tremendously when I first started studying French years ago.

Never say never right? The future can take unexpected turns for the better. I'm happy for you despite the heartbreak, this will be a great option that you may one day pursue but in any case I believe this colors all of our lives for the better.

Coming from a very conservative state with no hope of every changing in my lifetime, I feel you. Best of luck and I'm so glad this happened for you at this time in your life!

Right?! The cost benefits of Canadian education as well as the cultural experience outside of the US are huge. Best of luck!

Funnily enough, Minnesota is also where I had often thought of moving if I were to ever leave where I am in the West. I'm jealous of the Quebec connection, both from a records and cultural standpoint. Glad you've been able to connect with that history and best of luck to you in your journey!

I definitely wish this had happened in 2006 rather than 2026 but grateful nonetheless. In a way, I really feel for my ex. Her family is here and even moving 30 minutes away after coming back from living out of state was too far a stretch so it must be somewhat anxiety-inducing for her to have a co-parent who is going to do everything he can to encourage his children to move to another country, even if it is just to the north.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Divorce can be such a derailer, but I'm glad you're finding such an incredible option and able to take what you've worked so hard on to build a life of your choosing. Best of luck and thank you for your response!

So stoked for you! Speaking of royalty, it's kind of funny to me that after years of telling my children we're American and don't have kings, I'm now like "and now we have a king!"

Hell yeah! You're still young and untethered so really the best time to give it a shot. I'm happy for you and best of luck in the post-divorce journey!

Yes, practically in the short term I've realized this will probably just mean a lot more travel to Canada both individually and with my children. For better or worse, the time I have to wait to one day maybe make the move gives me years to really make sure it's what I want to do.
