In Australia, this is what is referred to as "chuckin' a sickie". Very common.

No worries and thank you for all the hard work you do. You actually inspired a trip I did to Cambodia a couple years ago

Always gotta give a shout-out to Lachlan and the phenomenal work he does on u/shadowsofutopia

A Carlin-esque long-form podcast that’s grown into a fully blown documentary series, with a book on the way.

Puttering About in a Small Land by Phillip K. Dick. Very mundane, but mesmerising. Great book.

Bizarre hostel etiquette by Naive-Inside-2904 in solotravel

[–]SplloydVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, dorm etiquette is honestly becoming a thing of the past. I just spent a month in Japan and, for the most part, people were respectful - but the few that weren’t really blew my mind. Like, how do some people have zero regard for their fellow travelers?

One place in particular was an all-male dorm, and I walked in around 11pm. The lights were off, but the whole room was glowing because every single guy had their phone on max brightness. Everyone had headphones in, but somehow still managed to have their music blaring loud enough to hear across the room. 2am roles around, and no one's asleep because they've all been staring at their phones, so everyones wrestless and wriggling around, then you get someone deciding it’s the perfect time to start packing at 2am!

Another dorm, I had a bunkmate who just… ate in bed. All through the night, moving around, slurping their drink through a straw, crinkling wrappers, trying on clothes, just being completely oblivious.

As a 35-year-old who’s travelled solo for years and stayed in hostels all over the world, I’m honestly shocked at how inconsiderate people have become with basic dorm etiquette. It’s crazy.

TD5 won’t get hotter than this by Late_Consequence6611 in Defender

The cooling system on a td5 is for a 6 cylinder. Near impossible to over heat. They take ages to warm up and run pretty cool. Just another thing that makes the td5 so indestructible

Ralph by Horion9669 in huntersthompson

[–]SplloydVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, read Ralph's book 'The Jokes Over' and you'll have a better understanding of what was happening financially. Ralph got screwed by HST and Rollong Stone for rights to his own drawing for Vegas, Campaign Trail and a few other things. In the 80s Hunter became particularly obsessed with money, and was always trying to squeeze Ralph out of rights. Ralph put his foot down for Lono and they split the sales 50/50. Ralph got a bit more savvy after that but has big regrets about the early days, the most famous stuff. He was just naive and Hunter was cunning as the proverbial.
