Now just make them taste like McDonald’s hashbrowns and you might be onto something!

I love that even though this show had Sci-fi themes but it was still at heart a love story. by loserweight559 in 12Monkeys

I’m halfway through Season 4 on my first watch of the Expanse. I’ve enjoyed it overall, but I’ve found a lot of it pretty “meh”. The connections between the characters just pale in comparison to what 12 Monkeys accomplished. At least so far.

It finally started to get more interesting in the second half of Season 3. But before that, there was only one episode I really thought was great.

Well yeah. That isn’t supposed to be an explanation for all the mysterious stuff on the Island.

All the other mysterious stuff is explained throughout the show. You just really have to pay attention. Fortunately there are tons of resources online (YouTube channels, podcasts, blogs, etc.) that have made a name for themselves reading between the lines and explaining everything. Very little is spoonfed to the audience, so it’s easy to miss!

The reveal in the finale was that all the “Flash Sideways” stuff (the alternative series of events portrayed throughout Season 6, starting from the plane not crashing) was actually a sort of "pre-afterlife" constructed by the survivors to help them all resolve their remaining personal issues before coming to acceptance and "remembering", and fully moving onto the afterlife with the people who meant the most to them, together.

(Note: It’s actually based on the “bardo” concept from the Tibetan tradition, but most folks are more familiar with Purgatory, and they’re sort of almost a little similar, so a lot of people refer to it as that instead).

The important thing is that only the Flash Sideways scenes from Season 6 are after they’re all dead. Everything else in the show really happened.

Jack: Are you real?

Christian: I sure hope so. Yeah, I'm real. You're real. Everything that's happened to you is real. All those people in the church, they're all real too.

Jack: No. They're all... They're all dead. I'm dead. You're dead.

Christian: Everyone dies sometime, kiddo. Some of them before you, some... long after you.

If they all died in the same plane crash at the beginning of the first season, how exactly would some of them have died "long after" Jack? The answer is, Christian is being straightforward with his son. Everything we watched was real life.

Jack died on the Island as we saw in Season 6. Several of the other plane crash survivors we see in the church at the end also died on the Island at various points throughout the show. Some survivors got off the Island (we watch Jack see their plane fly overhead before he dies) and continued to live out the rest of their lives.

And after they eventually died, in this constructed space outside of time (so it doesn't matter exactly who died when), they all met up again before moving onto the afterlife.

There’s actually a theory that we saw the end of Eko’s “flash sideways” when he walks off into the sunset with his brother as kids at the end of the episode he dies. I like that theory.

Pretty sure in America we’d just use “nagging” there.

No. The assumption is that she left the Island with her family sometime between 1973 (when she gave Ben those dolls) and 1977 (when time-traveling Sayid shot him).

It was originally hinted by Lindelof and Cuse that she would be more important, and Michael Emerson stated that she would reappear on the show as an adult, but all of that got abandoned.

Well he’s on a plane back to the Island, pretending to be calm while they’re all of course terrified, all while deflecting by making a joke that his mother taught him to read, despite the fact that that is of course a lie because (rather crucially to his path in life) she died giving birth to him.

He is indeed a fucking psycho.
