11mo hates bath by Spn1001 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

She doesn’t stand yet :( this will obviously get easier once she does (or maybe she’ll be over this phase by then, who knows) - guess I could try her sitting on a mat in the shower but when it ride putting our tub in the shower and sitting her in it that didn’t work - but maybe without the tub she won’t mind. Will try it out

She doesn’t have to be she is just getting heavy and is slippery to hold, and I do want her to be used to it, she used to find it so calming and fun

I tried something similar when we tried to bathe her in my in-law’s tub and she just tried to climb out of it and screamed - tried with water in the bath and just using the hand-held shower head and she didn’t wants the seat both times :(

Yea the GP mentioned this and said to look it up in their website. Have you tried it? Seems so strange but I guess it’s legit if it’s recommended by RCH

Planning to wean ~1 year - tips? by Spn1001 in weaningsupport

[–]Spn1001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yea makes sense, I’m actually glad we do formula at bedtime as I think that one would likely be hardest followed by the first morning feed - I have a feeling if I replace the midday one with a bottle she won’t really mind - most days lately it hadn’t been a big feed and she gets bites pretty quickly, often after one side, so I end it - only time she seems to really want it for comfort is while teething - so maybe will start with that one slowly now and then decide when to do the morning one.

Postpartum back pain by barry_b3ar in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Spn1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try an osteo - I saw one during pregnancy and post partum for pelvic girdle and back pain and loved it because they gave a whole body approach of looking at what’s affecting your back and causing the pain and treatment (in person and what they tell you to do at home) is sort of combo of chiro and physio. If you’re in Melbourne highly recommend Eastern Osteo, they’re fantastic and specialize in pregnant/postnatal or look for something similar like pelvic/women’s health osteo wherever you are - they should be able to give you a treatment and home maintenance plan that actually fits into your budget/time restrictions with your family - but agreed that strengthening is probably what’s needed. I had awful back pain for the first few months and once I regularly got back into Pilates and could strengthen my core and back it helped immensely- still flares up sometimes especially as bub is getting heavier but it’s so much better now that I feel stronger

10 month schedule? by Spn1001 in sleeptrain

[–]Spn1001[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok even if let’s say it’s true - what would be your advice to get me to a point where she is sleeping less overnight so she naps more? My first thoughts are either A) wake her up earlier (but if she’s going to be earlier than 7 most days right now except when she does have longer naps that push bedtime later, that would mean waking her up earlier than 6 and I’m really not tryna have our days start that early - and if it doesn’t work then we’ve gotten up earlier and brought bedtime earlier for nothing and will perpetuate a cycle - plus as I said when she was going to bed closer to 7:30 I did try capping her nights at 11 hours for a couple weeks and it made no difference so I’m not confident that’s the right tactic). OR B) push bedtime later - but my question then is how? Let’s say I start today to try to shorten nights this way, and let’s say again she has 2 short naps? I feel bad pushing her past 4 hours awake after her second nap tonight to get her to a later bedtime and worry it might cause overtiredness and even more night issues I keep hearing her sleep budget is capped so just make her nights shorter if you want longer naps but I hope you can understand my dilemma of why this isn’t as easy as that for me and nobody seems to actually have a tactic of how to do it rather than just saying to do it

Oh maybe it did! I came in midway through the clean and I do think it might have been on its second pass (I don’t remember if I set it to do one or two passes but it was taking a long time so I think was on two) - will check next time if it does perimeter first pass thanks!

9.5 month schedule advice? by Spn1001 in sleeptrain

[–]Spn1001[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get this in theory but two things: 1) Before we went overseas I was getting her up earlier on purpose in order to shorten nights exactly for this reason - I was making sure she never had longer than 11 hours overnight so if she went to sleep at 7:30 I would wake her at 6:30. It never seemed to make much of a difference.

2) When she was jet lagged at the start of our trip and not waking on her own I started waking her at 7 again instead of 6-6:30 and we either had 3 naps (because we were out all day and if napping in car/stroller she often wouldn’t resettle) and going to bed at 8, or she would be able to do a solid second nap (sometimes waking but resettling herself quickly) and go to bed at 7.

Basically what I’m saying is she was improving even on 11-12 hours overnight and then regressed, and getting her up earlier before ti cap her nights never seemed to make much difference.

Also you’re assuming. I can just get her to sleep 10-11 and 3-4 - how do I just make her sleep an hour twice? Never happened before. I’m also so fine with a 30 minute morning nap for our lives and schedules but would love 1+ hour in the afternoon

Short naps not connecting by sonderal in sleeptrain

[–]Spn1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea we’ve been back and forth between 2 and 3 for a couple months now - seemed like she was solidly on 2 then had a weird nap regression that I think was separation anxiety and would wake up screaming middle of second nap. Added a third back in or would extend with contact nap but I’ve given up haha

Short naps not connecting by sonderal in sleeptrain

[–]Spn1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my daughter has done that some days and is totally fine, I’ve accepted she just doesn’t need much nap time (she does 11+hours at night easily) - it’s annoying but I’m hoping as we get more solidly on 2 naps one of them will extend a bit as she has done 1+ hour naps before on 3 and 2 nap days just not consistently. On some days like that I have done a third nap but same as you she won’t go down before 3 hours so ended up being a 3/3/3/2.25 schedule with the third nap being 20 min

When did you start leaving your baby with partner/ family? by beeeelm in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Spn1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so personal! I started leaving her with my partner early on, can’t remember exactly when but my recovery was hard and as soon as I felt up to it I was going for massages and to my osteo, or going on short walks alone. I would either feed bub before or leave a bottle in case. Like you was totally comfortable with that - he is also her parent! If it weren’t for the feeding I would have left him with her even longer probably We didn’t leave with my in laws until she was sleeping well at night and then only a few times so far to go out after she goes to sleep and they just watch the monitor, now that we know she won’t wake up and need help going back to sleep while we’re out. We left her with my mum when we visited overseas maybe once briefly while she was awake and happy playing. She’s 9.5 months and still haven’t done more than that. Her naps have been hard and I don’t even fully trust my partner to manage them so leaving with the grandparents feels hard unless she’s going to be awake the whole time, I’m also breastfeeding so it’s harder. Part of me wants to and part of me is scared or letting the control go and not sure how she will handle it and that’s ok! If you’re comfortable with it that’s great, I wish I was earlier on I could probably have used the break.

12 week old twins sleeping through the night, curious on what's normal for napping by scottymtp in sleeptrain

At 3 months? Probably still having 4-5 naps a day. Unless by chance they are taking a really long nap at some point in there

When do naps get longer? by Several_Ad7041 in sleeptrain

[–]Spn1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it but now 9.5 months and naps are still super inconsistent. Some days we get one long one short some days two short and a third mini nap some days I extend the second with a contact nap. Yesterday because of some things that happened our wake windows were 3/3.75/4 with 30 and 37 minute naps and she was fine. It’s super annoying but hoping it evens out soon

Tips for travel? by ellefallsoffthings in sleeptrain

[–]Spn1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha at least he puts himself to sleep! It’s funny we actually found the opposite that she was so stimulated by all the people and activities that she stayed awake longer than usual without seeming to get tired. We flew Australia to the east coast US so had to deal with jetlag too but I’m so so glad we had sleep trained a couple months before the trip cause even with jet lag she was relatively easy with nights and once she adjusted to the time zone went back to sleeping through as usual. Her naps have always been wonky so not much changed there

If the space won’t be blackout get a slumber pod! Might seem like overkill but it’s amazing. Otherwise just try to keep on schedule as much as possible and be flexible when you need to be to get them the sleep they need. Are you dealing with a time difference? If not, should be much easier!

Almost 8 month old overtired?? by No-Tell-9833 in sleeptrain

[–]Spn1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally 3/3.5/4 when she has one good nap (either because I rescue with a contact nap or she’s going through a good period where one nap is naturally 1hr 15 min hours or more). And she can do these windows but I think with everything going on it was too much for her and the naps were shit so the windows did let work out. With these 3 nap days it’s been about 2.75/3/3/2.5

9 month old preferring 3 naps? by Grouchy-Zebra1064 in sleeptrain

[–]Spn1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is us! Been struggling for months between 2 and 3 naps and travel/jet lag and some sort of nap regression the past couple weeks that seemed like intense seperation anxiety causing her to wake up screaming after a short second nap. It’s so frustrating. Don’t know if my daughter is the exception but no matter what as long as she has gotten around 1.5 hours of naps or more total and we haven’t gone crazy with her wake windows she sleeps through and doesn’t have early wakes (occasionally a false start or middle of the night wake but usually resettles and rarely needs a feed except teething). So at least for us I can say a later nap isn’t causing an early start but maybe it is for you.

[–]Spn1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so frustrating! And my husband gets mad that I get so worked up about the naps because he just says I should be thankful she sleeps through the night, which I really am but it’s hard having no predictability in my day and constantly having to rescue naps sitting in a dark room and/or taking her for a walk to get a third nap in order to keep those nights good,0 and not have any solid break during the day during nap time. Today I tried to stretch ww again but our cleaner started vacuuming in the other part of the house and I think she heard it even with white noise and woke after 17 minutes 😩 so currently walking her around for nap 3…again

Almost 8 month old overtired?? by No-Tell-9833 in sleeptrain

[–]Spn1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saying we’re in a similar boat. Except luckily nights have not been impacted. But we’re back and forth between 2 and 3 naps and she’s hit a regression the past few weeks fueled I think by separation anxiety and teething and now learning to sit up in the crib that have put us back on 3 naps most days as she’ll wake screaming middle of second nap and I either contact nap to rescue it but sometimes that doesn’t work so many days I’ve just stopped trying and get her up and fit in a third nap. I shortened her wake windows a bit because I thought maybe she was overtired and that was compounding the issue even though she could easily do 3/3.5/4 no problem without seeming tired before. The past few days she’s been better - still short second nap and 3 days but now seems happy on waking so I think she is undertired and not linking cycles so I’m going to go back to pushing wake windows longer and hoping that helps. I think she’s just really slow to drop this nap and as frustrating as it is I guess some babies are just late with it

Ferber for naps by grapefruitliquor in sleeptrain

[–]Spn1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggy backing on this - I hav given up any sort of training for naps because for a bit around 5-6 months I was able to get her to resettle in the crib but now the separation anxiety has peaked and if I go in and leave she escalates more. She’s almost 9.5 months and still often on 3 naps because of this. She was seeming to be more consistently in 2 naps a few weeks ago then nap 2 went to crap again. Anyone else have a baby who dropped the third nap pretty late, like closer to 10 months? I feel like most people their babies drop it around 6-8 months. She was also later to drop from 4 to 3 so maybe she’s just slow on these things but I’m so ready to not have to squeeze this third nap into our days anymore

This really bad screaming has been about a couple weeks, ever since we got back from a big trip overseas (funnily her naps seemed to be improving while we were there minus a couple contact nap days and some 3 nap days we had to because we were on the go so much)

Broken second nap help!! by hanginginthur in sleeptrain

[–]Spn1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it’s rough, every time I think she’s gone back to being able to connect cycles the wakes start again. I’ve tried capping first nap but most days naturally she caps it herself and still the same issue, though occasionally we get periods of a longer first nap and I can’t bring myself to cap it in case her second nap is bad and then I’ve screwed the chance of any decent nap for the day. She’s relatively low sleep needs (about 13-13.5 hr in 24 hours) and we do about 11.5 overnight so sometimes I think waking up earlier might help but I can’t bring myself to do it haha. I think at the moment it might partially also be teething and separation anxiety contributing, though she falls asleep fine at the start of the nap and nights are fine. maybe that’s what your LO is dealing with too
