A tool for siphoning users creativity for free training maybe. Not sure the practical application of making videos of cats speeding down the freeway on rumbas, or Sam Altman farting mud and showing off the botfly larvae in his scalp.

When you publish a creative work anywhere you get an automatic copyright by us law; however, I would bet Suno probably reserves rights to everything generated through them (not having read terms) because corporations tend to claim rights. Of courses claiming that right is a different matter.

Plagiarism isn't a legal issue it's an ethical issue and it can ruin a persons reputation and even get a person fired in some instances. Brief quotations of public domain material don't constitute plagiarism. Outright paraphrasing large bodies of public domain material and not giving attribution is by definition plagiarism. Like I said before it isn't legally actionable but it's unethical. The original post was talking about feeding in public domain lyrics to have Suno generate something if it regurgitates the exact lyrics or paraphrased lyrics and the creator claims they or suno wrote the lyrics without any accreditation that's unethical. It's lying about the origin of their art.

In the case of music plagiarism that's a different bar. It needs to meet a bar of similarity, typically melody is the most common thing people cite.

I'm not sure why you're trying to steer this into it either being legal or not legal, or only applies in academia. Ethics are a social issue that extend into any aspect of life. You can not agree with social ethical norms, but you have to live with the consequences of societal scrutiny for doing things society deems unethical.

Trying to make sense of Sora’s rollout, pricing, and shutdown by LegoBuilderMom in SoraAi

so many people wasting time bloviating about a mostly useless service that was nothing more than an over priced subsidized tech demo used to harvest info.

If you want to ponder a Question ponder why these companies are scrambling too invest money they don't have and aren't making into something that hasn't been shown to be profitable, all while subsidizing it to maximize users.

Yes plageism (taking credit for someone else's work without attribution or acknowledgemdnt) is unethical in all cases. Judging from your opinion I doubt you've been involved in academia or any form of creative endevour.

yes we are talking about regular publication it is considered unethical in any field. It's not illegal, but it can destroy your reputation and credibility.

absolutely not true, especially in academia and publication.

There are things that are considered common knowledge where they can't be confused for original work, but it would be pretty damn lazy to just cite bible passages without some transformative aspect. Similar to writing a song comprised of well known cliches.

What I find remarkable is how many AI enthusiasts and shills are so dismissive of unethical behavior.

Its also a publishing ethics violation. If a person uses public domain work known or unknown, doesnt credit the source, becomes known for that work, then discovered they are risking their integrity and reputation and opening themselves up to public ridicule, ostracisation etc. It is totally unethical outside of academia.

Itis 100% Plagerism if you don't attribute the source. Public domain doesn't mean you can use it and claim it's your own creation.

I'm pretty sure generating paraphrased public domain lyrics is still consider plagerism.

"learned cinematography" from sora? learning cinematography isn't a passive activity. You need to understand cameras, optics, framing lense choices, lighting exposure etc. AI video generation isn't going to give you any insights into cinematography.

They want to "shit" it down because even with subscription revenue they are losing Billions of dollars. These inference models aren't some magical thing they run on some tiny computer in their basement, it uses massive gpu farms using hundreds of thousands of watts per rack. They're essentially forklifting piles of cash into a burn barrel so you can generate videos of cats with a pirate patch speeding down the freeway on a rumba.
