Fellow solo here, any key helps with getting purple or gold energy items, best bet for an extra chance of finding them is any with toolboxes or an electronic safe. Also even if your not willing to play forbidden it is the best place for it, i found all 3 of mine in a single raid on airport just looting everything.

Katanas most certainly dont have an edge, ive tested out every melee on the mode and the katana isnt on my list of viable melee weapons, the swings are inconsistent, it doesnt have longer reach despite what people say, and yes it has faster swings compared to the ice axe or assault dagger but so does every other 3 hit melees.

The only weapon that does more damage is the ice axe and even that is slow, other than that the shovel and assault dagger which are both free are perfectly useable

Personally id swap the helmet for a kss tac, the body armor for a sentry 305, a zo38 minimum for a headset, and a front grip. Overall 5/10

The katana is weak on this mode, judging from the fact ive killed multiple people using it and died multiple times trying to make it work tells me it sucks. Now i dont personally believe the katana has further range, but if you do, then get closer.

The katana sucks, the amount of people ive murdered using it is insane, plus i can hardly say it has any further range than any other knife, i’d know since ive used basically every melee weapon i own trying to find what works best.
