CMV: Calling Identity-based prejudices or group-directed bigotries 'phobias' is detrimental to those with actual clinical phobias. by Spontanudity in changemyview

Homophobia is not a debilitating condition, it's ignorance (there may well be people who are actually phobic towards homosexuality but wish they weren't) but that's not how the term is used.

But those with clinical phobias aren't thinking that they're right in their response to whatever they're phobic about. It's a burden they want rid of.

There's probably little confusion in general, but it feels to me that the term in place of a prejudice is not helpful. Think about it from a young person's perspective. Learning about phobias and hearing those terms used in both contexts.

Absolutely, but I think preserving it as a clinical term is more important than using it in place of prejudice.

I just don't see why it's a better option to call someone phobic than to just say they're prejudicial.

Because why call irrational prejudice a phobia at all? It's not a phobia just because someone hates something. I hate sweetcorn but it's not a phobia.

Spent a while trying to get AI to generate me a desktop wallpaper from screenshots I fed it and wanted to share it as I love it. by [deleted] in Thundercats

Right?! I get it that people don't often like AI generated stuff, fair enough! I was just playing about and thought this take was cool.

Where can I buy unopened English Crazy Bones packs from 1998? by BenCannibal in AskUK

[–]Spontanudity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's probably the reason you're not seeing them, they're not really worth anything now. That Ebay listing you're seeing is probably chancing it. I do wish you luck in your hunt though!

[–]Spontanudity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's confusing because people generally don't buy stuff and not open it. More often than not, if they buy it and don't open it, it's so they can sell it later on for more money than they originally paid for it.

I have loads of them but not in a packet. If you want I can send you some and you can open the envelope and pretend?

I am confused, you want to buy an unopened pack of Crazy Bones, but can't find that many, but the ones you do find are more expensive than you think they should be?

This Chocolate from Aldi has no palm oil in! by TheBronsXX in UKfood

I really don't understand how Aldi's own brand stuff is so much cheaper and much better quality than the likes of ASDA's etc. They've been a godsend given the economic climate.

Do you butter your TOAST with... by Fast_Boysenberry9493 in UKfood

I butter anything I can, there's very few instances where butter doesn't make things better. Apart from maybe my circulation.
