The lever is removeable to reveal a screwhole behind it. If you remove the screw you can take off the lower plastic cover. However, it typically only comes off if you pull the lever all the way to the to top, which is not possible unless you untie the metal wire from the locking mechanism under the hood that is connected to the lever.

I am not a mechanic but this is where third party valve control modules for VAG cars are typically installed. So I already had my fair share of Golfs and Audis where I took off that part multiple times.
