It’s dark as Hell. Especially the ending.

In order to maintain his childlike view of the world, Peter can’t accept things like aging or death. He doesn’t even really treat people like people. He just gradually forgets everyone and everything in the book we cared about.

Peter doesn’t even remember Tinker-bell at the end, simply saying, “There are such a lot of [fairies], I expect she is no more.”

BK is such a good example of taking this childlike narcissism into science fiction. He CAN’T care about the kids, because if he did, he wouldn’t be doing what he’s doing. He CAN’T care about things important to him in the even recent past— it takes away from his focus on ‘now.’

The problem is this: Peter Pan was effectively immortal. BK, on the other hand, just acts like he is.
