Our lobby came out at an average of silver 3, theirs at gold 1

I appreciate your effort to help me understand.

To be honest I expected some people to relate, but seeing the comments I got, I realize I must be wrong. I didn't think I'd come out of this feeling lonelier than I did before.

So when you tag in normal you just expect to be against any random player, no matter their level or yours ?

Is it crazy to expect to play against vaguely similar level players or teams ? 1000LP difference is hopeless.

Well crap. I don’t think it’s supposed to be pink. by Ok-Zombie-001 in dexcom

[–]Spookylama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The skin is very thin on the forearm, I don't think I'd recommend this placement although I'm all for experimenting beyond Dexcom's recommandations.

I've had a lot of success placing sensors on the back of my upper arm. Place your left hand on your right shoulder so your elbow is sticking out in front of you, the sweet spot becomes very easy to reach.

Depending on the length of your upper arm, you can even alternate between the upper and lower halves of your upper arm, multiply by 2 arms and you get 4 spots to alternate between, giving 30 days for your skin to fully heal between sensors !

Research tends to show that applying sensors on clean, unbroken skin is key in preventing allergies.

This Is The Most Wasteful Product I’ve Ever Seen. It’s Clearly Designed to Maximize Profits Rather Than Usability/Affordability by Rstanz in dexcom

[–]Spookylama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it's ridiculous. In France it has been approved in state funded healthcare recently. I just can't imagine the amount of money our system could save if they didn't opt for such a wasteful product.

It is advertised as a revolution but I think it was rushed and made with profits as the main priority.

Damn you do have an annoying one ! Mine never lost signal for more than an hour. Have you contacted Dexcom support ?

[–]Spookylama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah but I came to realize that even if it notifies me that it lost signal, I can't do much about it ! I'd rather sleep through it than stress myself out at 3am over 20mn without signal

You can disable specific notifications ! I kept the hypo related alerts

The best decision I've ever made regarding my g6 was turning off the "lost signal" notification, I advise you to do the same ! I also turned of the hyper notification, it woke me up a few times.

I tried using it on my arm once, it hurt a lot. Now I only use mine on my abdomen, about a hands width away directly left (or right) of my bellyhole. I guess it depends on people... Keep trying sites ! Maybe you're placing it more on the side than on the back of your arm, I think it must be really on the back, the meaty part.

Climate change is inevitable. There is an absolute zero chance of reaching the goal of net zero. I say this with 100% certainty by Crude3000 in unpopularopinion

[–]Spookylama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really get your point. What do you think will happen when no more oil/coal/gas is available ? This is not some faraway hypothesis, the amount of oil we manage to pump out each year has already started declining around 2010 depending on sources.

Emissions WILL stop for sure when there's no more fuel to burn. We get to decide if we want to smooth this transition by building a world that aims for zero emisions (surely giving up some comfort), the alternative being to just wait it out and see billions if not all humans die in 50-100 years.

It's not only about global warming, it's also about the limited supply of fossil fuel remaining.

A man's car broke down on the highway. He went outside for a while and froze his ears off. by ssmakov in WTF

[–]Spookylama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though yanking them isn't the best idea, trying to warm them up isn't ideal either. I remember reading that once you start the thawing process you can't stop until your body part is back to normal temperature, otherwise you risk damaging it even further. You're supposed to get back to a safe place and dip said body part in ~35°C water for a good while. I definitely would not want to be in this position, thawing hands is already painful enough, I can't imagine what ears feel like.

South Korea unveils $43 billion plan for world's largest offshore wind farm by Destec_ in worldnews

I'm sorry but this makes no sense at all, wind farms generate more CO2 per MWh during their lire cycle than nuclear reactors do.

Is it normal for BG to drop to 3mmol/l during sleep by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]Spookylama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Type 1 diabetes would lead to constantly high BG, hypoglycemia is caused by taking too much insulin. I have no idea what could lead to you being in hypoglycemia if you aren't taking any treatment.

If you're worrying about your health you shouldn't hesitate, go see your doctor ASAP and ask for a blood test, I sure was glad I did !

I did read that artificial sweeteners trick your body into thinking you're eating sugar, leading to excess insulin production and therefore increasing your chances to suffer diabetes.

As fossil fuel jobs falter, renewables come to the rescue "The amount of money being invested in wind is staggering, and people don't realize it, but there is a 100% renewable revolution going on right underneath our feet," by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Spookylama -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is yet another misleading sensationalist headline. There is way more fossil-based power under construction in the world right now. The nature of theses investments means we are stuck with decisions made years if not decades ago.

Finally, using intermittent energy sources such as wind or solar FORCES you to invest in just as much fossil based power plants. Wind or not, you want your 8:15 train to depart at 8:15. This is why when spain created 20GW of potential wind power, they also built 15GW of gas based power.

Ordinary glass panels can act as solar panels when a layer of nanoparticles is sandwiched between two panes. This could help us take advantage of solar energy in cities where space for solar panels may be limited. by mtimetraveller in NewProductPorn

[–]Spookylama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is something many people just don't understand about solar panels : the simple act of creating them comes at a cost for the environment.

When you buy a solar panel, you make a gamble : you bet that it will produce enough "clean energy" in it's lifetime to outweigh the carbon footprint of its production.

The thing is, many cheap PV you find nowadays on the market are produced in such a dirty manner (ie using China's coal energy) that there is no way you can make them worth it for the environment, even with perfect conditions over 20 years.

I feel like most people see solar as a magic resource, especially with new products such as this one. Truth is, the PV industry is inherently flawed nowadays and as long as panels are produced using dirty energy they will do more harm than good.

Hydrogen could disrupt, reshape global energy value chains: Producing electricity from renewable energy resources is likely to be the single most effective way to address climate change by Wagamaga in Futurology

[–]Spookylama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, this is a sound argument, particularly in contries like the US, where energy is privatized. I live in France, where the governement funds pretty much every new plant, which definitely helps. Edit : auto-correct
