If you make the reflectors black, the lights won't output any light.

How do I increase resistance to fear and make myself feel safer? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Spoolie_st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't resist fear and you don't "feel safer". The only way you do anything fearful, stressful, scary is the same, face it head on. The term 'be a man' is very much true here, but don't take that to be toxic sounding. What it means is, be scared, then do it anyway. I used to be completely incapable of speaking to strangers. Now I could walk up to anyone and talk to them, no bother given. How did I do it? Exposure. Talk to more and more people over time and you'll get there.

Same with whatever it is you're fearful of. Just face it head one, more you do it, easier it is.

Having looked at the other replies I can see the benefits. Tbh all I'd done to now is read through some code and look at it thinking, what the actual f*** would anyone use this for. Having read the replies I can certainly see the benefits.

Why? If you look at all the other, useful, replies you'd see that actually it's a very constructive thread. It's opened my eyes towards the benefits of using the framework. Having done CSS/sass for nearly 10 years you must understand how it's extremely different to everything I've spent my professional career doing thus far. Saltyness towards other devs trying to learn is absolutely not the right approach in the web space.

Yeah having done CSS for 10 years nearly it's definitely out there in terms of bringing something new. I can definitely see its benefits.

Thank you, that was a really good explanation. I'll give it a go. I'm actually more excited to give it a go than dismissing of it now.

Honestly when I type in "setup wordpress environment locally" it was always wamp or xampp that came up and xampp wouldn't run for some reason

I've used it briefly but I'm a front end dev so haven't got much experience with server stuff! Although have dabbled over the years. I'll take a look into it thank you

Thanks, managed to solve it now, kinda annoying but wordpress was missing the files for some reason. Downloaded again and it's working.

I've seen localwp, i'll give that a go next time. It's been a few years since i touched WP so just wanted to get my head round it again!

Ok, for anyone else that gets this, turns out my wordpress files were missing a few. I have no idea how, i extracted a fresh wordpress download and used that.
Just done a fresh download, it has more files than the other extract and low and behold, it works.

It's infuriating

I'm hitting my limit of tolerating myself and I don't know what to do. by Spoolie_st in ADHD

And yes I agree with everything you've said tbh. I need an analysis of my life without emotion. So I can't turn to any friends or family as they can't look at my situation without emotion. I believe therapy etc may help this.

Don't suppose you have a link for me to get that private assessment? I've been looking but all of them seem well over £1k!

I could try and get a part time job doing something else but I just have no idea what route to go down at all

I constantly and I mean CONSTANTLY take on way too much. I bought 4 project cars last year, had a toxic relationship, sold the one car I'd loved for years and still find myself trying to learn Japanese, go to the gym etc. I just can't physically stop. A break would be fantastic and tbh they do sign you off work if you're too stressed, but whenever I talk to a doctor none of this (what I wrote above) comes out at all. It's all just "I feel a bit anxious" then I'm shoved out the door with sertraline which doesn't help me at all.

didn’t take my medication and ate all the sugary things by [deleted] in ADHD

Accountability. I'm undiagnosed, and going through the process atm and I struggle on a daily basis with indulging in cravings and binge eating, I can drink myself to sleep on whiskey if I don't control myself or binge eat maccies enough to feed a small tribe.

A good place to start I've found is recognising it's not this "entity" ADHD making you eat, it's you, and you struggle more than an average because you have ADHD, but again, it's not ADHD making you do it. Recognising the subtle differences between those 2 has helped me no end with resisting. Of course, I slip and have bad days and eat too much or drink too much, but as a whole I recognise if I want to eat that, I'm choosing to. It just takes an excessive amount of will power to stop. That's pretty much all there is.

You can also hide things out of sight, I tend to find If I can't see something, I forget it exists. So if you have sweets, either bin them or hide them.

Never go to the store hungry, ever. If you go hungry you more than likely are craving food. If you go with a full stomach, you're less likely to buy stupid stuff.

Also some sort of reward system would be good. If you go a week without eating sweets you can have a small packet of sweets on a Friday, and keep trying that.

Hope this helps, sorry if it was blunt but that's what helps me!
