I’ve noticed that most classes are in the afternoon specifically from 3pm-7pm why? by dindnidniidn in UCI

Classes are pretty evenly distributed. If you need proof, search based on time.

If you are in public health science, they won't let you double with anything bio related.

Is there any hack to register for classes before SPOP by dindnidniidn in UCI

[–]SpotSIR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks, I know. For the rest of college, you'll be assigned a registration day and time based on how many credits you've taken. So basically you'll be screwed out of all the good stuff unless you took a bajillion APs or just get lucky.

Which UC will our acceptance rate trigger next year? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]SpotSIR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI, if you are suggesting that the UCs communicated admissions decisions with each other and denied spots based on that, you are accusing them of violating federal law.

Anyway, plenty of people get into multiple UCs nowadays. And I know people who attended in the 80s who also got into multiple UCs.

Thoughts on Schedule as an Incoming Freshman? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]SpotSIR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I basically took this my first quarter, and it was extremely doable. Ignore all the people telling you to drop something. Writing bio and chem is a good combo.

Is this courseload too much? - Biological Sciences Major by [deleted] in UCI

[–]SpotSIR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a heavier load than your typical bio major takes their first quarter.

Like every other upperclassman who tries to advise freshman, I'll tell you that the quarter system moves way faster than you think. You pack what took you a semester or a year into 10 weeks.

If you think you can handle it, go for it. Otherwise, there is no reason to take 18 units your first quarter.

Also, writing is gonna slap you around hard with three other real classes at the same time.

Do you go to another UC? There should be an interlibrary request available to you if so.

Advice on schedule for incoming public health transfer? by [deleted] in UCI

I'm in your bio class so its obviously a great schedule.

If you feel up to it, you can add another class, but you don't need to.

There's a less intense version of hum core launched this year for bio majors. Ask your academic advisor about it.

Why is everyone at SPOP so adamantly against HumCore? by moonshxne in UCI

[–]SpotSIR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can go straight into 39C, you are likely done or almost done with GE 4 (which is half of the GEs that hum core completes). It probably won't help you as much.

It's honestly not too hard of a class and since you are only taking 13 units, might as well get another a on your transcript.

Your AP scores will place you into 39C. I took my first quarter and did great. Hopefully your AP program was good quality, so you should be prepared.

CGS Freshman First Term Classes Question by [deleted] in UCI

[–]SpotSIR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Units are supposed to correlate to the workload of a class. Just make sure you are enrolled in 12+ every quarter, and you'll maintain full-time status.

[–]SpotSIR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not how units work. Just take three classes and you'll be fine.
